Need to Complete MD Prerequisites

Hi all,

I am currently entering my senior year of college at DePaul University as a Political Science/Economics student. I am planning on attending medical school after graduation but there is only one problem...I haven't even started my prereqs for med school yet. I have enough open electives to complete inorganic chemistry but I would have to attend for at least another 2 years to complete the rest of my prereqs (quarter system). The main reason for the tread is to get your opinion on whether I should stay at my current school and pay around $1,500/unit or search out a post-bac pre-med program. I currently live in the northern Chicago suburbs so anywhere around the Midwest would be sufficient. Thanks in advance!!

P.S. My GPA is 3.55 and I have extensive community service and upper level Poli Sci classes if that makes a difference.

AMCAS has a searchable database of post-bacc programs.

Choose “career-changer” as the type.

Since you are 2 years away from being able to take the MCAT, you need to be aware that content covered in MCAT is changing in 2015.

Besides the usual (biology, gen chem, ochem, physics, English, math), you will also need stats, biochem plus introductory psych and sociology.

I think you need to a cost-analysis to see how much it will cost you to remain at your current college vs. high quality post-bacc program.

Loyola has an excellent post-bac program in the Chicago area.
