I am right now 5'10'' and weight about 180 lbs. I would like to get my weight down to about 150-160 before starting college in August. I have a problem with junk food and I like to go out for fast food often. Are there any things I can eat/exercise I can do to lose the weight quicker? I would prefer not to weightlift and would rather do cardio exercise so that I won't gain weight. Suggestions?

dump the soda for water. soda's dehydrating and bad for your teeth. don't even bother with diet. it still sucks.

and cardio stuff, like step aerobics, gets tiring quickly. so...you might try a variation of stuff. even weights (and this is coming from the scrawniest, weakest kid who managed to force herself to do ten minutes with two 5 pound barbells)

i agree with cantstandmenow switch soda for water (you save money and your health- it's a two in one). the second is to rent Super Size Me. why? i guarantee you will never step into another fast food restaurant. i used to love Wendys' .99 bacon cheeseburgers and i would eat them once a week, but after watching the movie I can't even go near a fast food restaurant. it grossed the crap out of me. before, i used to have this massive craving every time i went to a Wendys (it became like an addiction) then bam after the movie I quit cold turkey. and I walk a lot myself. i walk and use public transportation a lot (i live in a metro area that has subways, trains, and buses all over the place). also, try eating salads for lunch and fruit for breakfast. try cutting processed foods and eat fresh food (like fresh veggies, fruits, grains, and meats). and if you want, get a gym membership. i take spinning classes (cycling) twice a week for 45 minutes and boy is that a work out.

the whole "not wanting to gain weight from exercise" is a very hard thing to guage. you will gain muscle weight if you exercise. but this is not a bad thing. because if you combine the exercise with watching what you eat, you will lose weight/fat.

I too second the replacing soda with water. drinking plenty of water actually gets your metabolism up and helps you to lose weight, plus stay healthy and energized.

I would actually suggest cardio as you said. It is true that at first it can be exhausting. But for example, running, if you run you will be tired for a while but eventually as you get in better shape, you won't be as tired, and you will actually have much more energy because of the running! plus you will just feel better. it even improves your mood! and its good stress relief. just remember to start out small and slow and work your way up.

You should absolutely weight lift. Not only does weightlifting help strengthen you for cardio, but muscle burns more calories by fat, so just by sitting around on you ***, you'll be burning more calories than if you didn't do any resistance training.

Lots of girls are afraid of weight training because they think it will "build them up" and make them manly. I can promise you that, unless you go on steroids or performance-enhancing drugs (bad idea, anyway), a moderate weight training regimen can only help.

Agree about the cycling thing... a very good workout but jogging/running is still the best, IMO. Drinking LOTS of water is a must as well as taking a GOOD multi vitamin with the B grouping in it. B12 shots are supposed to speed up the metabolism but all it is is a concentrated B series vitamin... much cheaper and sometimes just as effective to do the pill.

Start swimming and never stop. Have you ever seen a swimmer with an ounce of fat on them?

I love swimming. That is a great low resistence exercise as opposed to jogging and running. I love those two but they can't be done by everyone. As far as weights if you do light ones they will tone you rather than add muscle and that looks better than just losing weight.
