Need to Enroll in order to Apply for Housing?

Some schools requirement and some don’t. It’s not very clear for IU. With an offer of admission, can just apply for housing? If we apply for both and S does not end up attending we lose $100 for the enrollment deposit and $100 from the housing deposit. This is pretty steep compared to the other schools we’ve put down housing deposits for. It’s one of his top choices and he feels that he won’t get good housing options if he doesn’t get something in soon. So we are definitely putting down a housing deposit but don’t want to risk more than we have to.

I applied for housing before I enrolled. You don’t have to enroll before submitting the housing application. It says this on some IU website, but I don’t know where it is. You shouldn’t put down an enrollment deposit until he makes a decision. If you want to submit the housing app, just put down the housing deposit now and the enrollment deposit can wait.

You can put housing deposit down without enrolling. The deposit is $300.00 but $200.00 is refundable.

Thank you! I have to say IU has one of the less clear websites. On one page it has step by step for enrolling with the implication of having to enroll before applying for housing. Relieved to know our damages will be limited (though IU does hold on to more than the other state universities we have put down deposits for).
