Need to evaluate my UCB odds

So, I am currently at CCSF and I have a 3.6 GPA. However, of the classes I have taken, only two of my "B" grades transfer. My GPA would be closer to 3.8. My declared major is English, but I am also considering Philosophy. I intend on taking 3 more classes for honors credit this next term so that I can have the Honors Program designation. My English teacher has offered to recommend me, and my aunt is an alum who recently was offered a grant to go back and study at UCB. I plan on having a strong personal statement, and I work with an ethnic news media outlet. I never finished HS but I did receive my GED with an estimated 3.65 GPA and I placed in the top 7% for every category on the GED tests except for Math. I expect my Spring GPA to finish at 4.0. What do you guys think? I have UCLA for my backup, but I would much rather attend UCB. Will they look at my non-transferable classes or will they focus on my transferable/major courses? Thanks for your time guys!

They’ll only focus on your transferable courses, so that should definitely help your GPA! I’m actually at a CCC nearby (College of San Mateo), and have applied to philosophy for UCB…Ironically, I used to be an English major. lol. Anyway, with a 3.8 to philosophy, you’re a shoe-in. Berkeley accepts around 44% of phil applicants from CCC’s. English is harder to get into, but with a 3.8 you stand a strong chance.

If you get a 4.0 this semester, and then again this fall, you should have a great shot at either major of being admitted.

I find out this Friday if I get into UCB’s philosophy department…I’m hella nervous! lol. I wish you the best, and I hope to see you someday in a phil or English class! I plan on taking many creative writing courses wherever I end up in the fall.

Best of luck!

Who are you taking for 1C?
Because if your using IGETC from ccsf you need to take 1C or speech 2.

Cal doesn’t care about rec letters unless it’s for appeals.

they don’t look at your GED results

Well that’s not smart… what if you get rejected?

Overall, it’s a bit of a toss up.

have you been accepted at ucla?
