I'm a high school senior and my first choice university's deadline for financial aid materials is Feb 1. I did my FAFSA today and I wasn't required to include my father in it. My parents have been legally separated for five years and I live with my mother. This school requires the CSS Profile.

Are 2012 income taxes for my father absolutely necessary to file the profile or can I give estimates until my father files his taxes within the next few weeks? I'm scared I'm not going to have the proper info in time. Please help!

2013 income tax filing would be needed for the 2014-2015 Profile. Your mom will complete the Profile. She will use her information ONLY.

Your dad will complete the non-custodial parent Profile. It is a separate form. He will need to use his BEST estimates for 2013 income and taxes. He will also have to do his 2013 income taxes. Most colleges require copies be sent to the school or IDOC at some point. He should plan to do these taxes ASAP so that you will have a finalized financial aid award before May 1 when you need to make a matriculation decision.
