<p>Risky business. It doesn’t matter if you apply to 160. A reach is still a reach and your chances of acceptance don’t improve by applying to more reaches. </p>
<p>Just PICK a safety and apply to it so you’re covered.
If you’re determined to go for the gold, period, you really need to get someone – like your counselor – to take a closer look at your recommendations and essays. </p>
<p>Also, some of these colleges don’t offer engineering. Is that okay with you? Another reach, but I would think that Swarthmore would be on your list.</p>
<p>I might also suggest including a performance tape as supplementary material, even though you don’t intent to major in music. This is especially valuable at the smaller schools. Williams, for example, has a very active jazz band. They would take your interest seriously.</p>
