Need to notify Caltech of Outside Scholarships

<p>If we're receiving financial aid, do we need to notify the finaid office of any outside scholarships that are sent directly to us? I know Caltech's policy is to replace the finaid award with the equivalent scholarship amount if the scholarship is sent directly to them; what if the scholarship is made payable to the student? Do we still need to notify the Financial Aid office of our award? Will it cut into my financial aid package?</p>

<p>You definitely still you need to notify the Financial Aid office, and it will cut into your financial aid package. However, Caltech will cut down on any loans/work study before removing any grants, so it still helps you substantially to get outside scholarships if you do have those loans.</p>
