I got a 1200 last time, 520 eng and 680 math, but i NEED to get it up to a 1300 with at least a 600 on each, which means i need to raise my eng score by aLOT (at least 80 points!)

I am taking a prep course at skool and i have been doing drills as well as trying to know all the ubiquitous 400.

is ther anything else i can do at this point?

It’s really all just a sad, sad game. There are certain strategies that will help you to improve your score in any of the sections. As far as the CR section goes, the one thing that is crucial to understand is that in the questions based on reading passages, there is ALWAYS something that makes an answer wrong. If you can eliminate one or two of the answers, the text will 100% of the time have something in it, whether it be obvious or nit-picky, that makes all but one of the answers incorrect.

One strategy that I like to use when working on reading passages is doing all of the questions that are specific to certain lines first. In answering these questions, you are able to get a sense of the passage, helping you to answer the questions that are based on the meaning of the passage as a whole.

When you have to compare two passages, I would read the first passage, do all questions specific to it, then read the second and do all questions specific to it. Finally, I would complete all of the comparison questions.

It is also worthy to note that often they will ask something about the author’s point of view, which can be deceiving as the passage may be written about something that the author does NOT agree with. Try and note subtle things in the questions and make sure you’re giving the best answer for what is being asked.

As far as vocabulary is concerned, just study as much as you can. There is no easy way around it. Most people will reach some sort of maximum score that they can achieve, and it is often vocabulary that creates this barrier. There are generally two “difficult level” vocab questions in each section. That means that there are generally six in the test overall. If you’re unable to answer any of them, and end up leaving them blank or guessing, you’re putting a lot of pressure on yourself to do well on the passages. If you can get to the point where you’re able to get 3 or 4 of the six and leave the rest blank or make a well-educated guess, you are setting yourself up for a high score.

The reason y i got to raise it is cuz the skool i wat to apply to guves auto admission to any applicant with at least a 600 on both CR and Math and a total score of at lesxt a 1300 with the 2, u also gotta be in the top quarter in ur class (which i thankfully am in)

Also, would u reccomend actually reading the passages ferst? or should I do the vocab and then the passage?

Vocab first. Skip the harder ones if you’re short on time. The easy ones should go quick.

Another strategy that I didn’t mention is to fill in the blanks in the vocab sections without looking at the answer options first. This helps you because it differentiates between your instinct and what the answers make you think. Go with what you think should fit in the blanks, if at all possible, and find the answer that corresponds to what you think.

Also, if you’re a fast enough reader, I’d read each passage all the way through.

Also, as a side note, every single SAT Reasoning math question can be solved without actually doing the math. There are ways to eliminate answers. The key is to figure out what the question is asking for and not to fall into a trap. Most questions have multiple steps, but they offer an answer choice that may relate to your answer after completing just the first step. Be careful of this.

Vocab is one of the better ways, it helps with the reading if you understand all the word (you have a better idea of the context). So in the short run, definitely work on the words.

Just read.
Seriously, most people who do really well on the CR have been reading very good literature for many years - but there’s always a chance to catch up, at least partway.
I hope that helps a little! I know it’s not very satisfying, but unfortunately the CR section has no quickfix answers.
