Need to retake SAT asap.

I'm in the class of 2013 and I took the SAT in January and got an 1880/2400, which is not good at all, being that I want to get into Vanderbilt. I know I need to retake it to up my score so I can increase my chances of admission, but I'm not sure how soon I have to take it? I need to do it before I start applying for college in September/October next year, so when would be the best time to sign up? Plus I have to find a way to get the money to pay my dad so I can take the test haha.

I’m thinking about signing up for June 2nd, I will be done with all AP exams by then, so I won’t have much stress at all starting in early May. Seems like a good idea to me. I was going to wait until I got my ACT scores to find out if I really need to retake the SAT, but I’m not taking the ACT until April 14. When will those scores come back?

Also, I wanted to take the SAT II Math in May, but knowing my father, he’s going to say something like “You already took the SAT I in January, you’re taking the ACT in April, now you want to take an extra SAT test in May along with your AP exams, and take the SAT AGAIN in June?!” … no one in my family understands the love I have for academics. Haha.

I like your plan of taking the SATs in June and the SAT IIs in May. What I ended up doing was taking Math II in October of this year (I’m a senior) and the SATs last March.

You should’ve considered signing up for the one in March. A lot of people (myself included) took the January one, checked their scores, and immediately registered for the March SAT. If you’ve been studying for awhile, why not?

I had to wait until I had the money to take it again. I’ve decided to retake it in June now.

Maybe you should look into an SAT Fee Waiver.

You can take it during senior year. I took all my standardized tests (SAT, SAT IIs, and ACT) during first semester senior year. If you think your score would be significantly higher if you have the chance to study over the summer, then you could do that. However, I don’t recommend it. College apps are difficult enough, you don’t want the stress of standardized tests during that period.

There are 2 more testing date coming up. And you could try to take it early as your senior year, it you want to wait that long.

There’s no reason to stress about the SAT though. You’re probably already used to the test, so you just need to work conscientiously. The hardest part is the length–remember that  I retook the SAT in October, and I literally forgot I was taking it until a day or two before. Raised my score 130 points.

No worries, I took the SAT for the first time in January last year, and I didn’t like my score, so I retook it in June (I’m not sure how the curve generally is in June, but my score increased significantly). I also managed to take 3 SAT subject tests in May along with all of my AP/IB tests. It was a bit stressful but I ended up doing relatively well on the exams…Plus, I didn’t have to study at all for the US History subject test, because the APUSH exam was the day before.

If it doesn’t work out, you can always take/retake the SAT or the subject tests in the beginning of your senior year.
