Need to say 'Thank you' each time an adcom replies your question?

Hi,

I wrote several emails to an admissions officer, asking a couple of questions about the application. After I received a reply, I wrote back a 'thank you' email just to be polite. However, I wonder if it's unnecessary to send a 'thank you' each time the admissions officer replies my question. Would it make a good impression?

(It might seem like an unimportant detail but writing an email to an adcom has always been stressful for me.)

No, it most likely won’t help you at all, but it’s just courtesy.

Thank you!

I think common courtesy is expected, and it would only be the opposite sort of response that would get you in trouble with the admissions office. In other words, while it doesn’t hurt (but probably doesn’t help much either) to say thank you, you might kill your chances of admission by insulting the officer!
