Hi,
So when I’m sending my AP scores to my school, do I need to send the ones that I wouldn’t get credit for, like a 3 on Bio won’t get me out of any classes. Would I have to send that score?
All AP scores will be sent on the AP score report. Anything less than a 3 then would not be eligible for credit and the school decides which scores they will accept for credit.
If you are asking whether you can withhold scores when applying for admission in the fall, the answer is that no college requires you to submit official AP scores as part of your application for admission. Any scores you want to provide as part of your application file, you can self report in the application or in an essay. The only exception is that there are a very small number of colleges that accept AP scores in lieu of SAT or ACT scores or subject tests (NYU is one), and if you choose to send AP scores rather than SAT or ACT scores, you need to send official scores.
Otherwise, official scores are not required until after you are admitted and you want the college that you will be attending to give you college credit. When ordering such scores sent by College Board, you can exclude scores you do not want sent. However, the process is different from score choice for the SAT for which you just check a box to withhold scores when ordering scores sent. To withhold an AP score , you need to submit a specifc form requesting such withholding when ordering scores sent and it costs $10 per each score withheld, see http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/ap/ap-score-witholding-form.pdf At that rate, one needs to consider the fact that since you are sending scores after you have been admitted, it is highly unlikely anything bad will happen if you provide all scores. Colleges simply give credit for ones that have high enough scores and do not withdraw admissions for any low scores.
