Need to take SAT Subject test?

A lot of universities require that one take SAT Subject tests. Some require Math II and a science that is closely related to his or her major.

If a student has taken AP Calculus AB his or her junior year (and is currently enrolled in BC) and scored a 5 on the exam, would they need to take the math level two subject test?

How about for a science? What if a student has taken AP Chemistry his or her junior year and scored a 4 on the exam, would they need to take the chemistry subject test?

Aren't the subject tests much easier than the AP exam?

Can someone fill me in?

Taking Math I and II would be recommended. Math I is insanely easy, but its curve is nonexistent (i.e. if you miss one question, you are already down to a 780). Math II on the other hand is a lot more difficult and is graded generously. You would be able to miss 6-8 and still score an 800. Based on your qualifications, it seems that Math II would be a strong choice for you, but why not take Math I as well.

It is not necessarily true that Subject Tests are easier than AP Tests. If anything, Subject tests are harder since the curriculum of AP Tests is based on the test. In May, I took the Bio E and American History Subject tests. The next week, I took the AP Exams and did better on them than the subject tests. Best of luck though!

For almost all colleges that require SAT subject tests having APs does not act as an alternative to satisfy the requirement. You must submit the SAT subject tests or you won’t be considered for admission.
