Need to transfer!

Hi, my college now is killing me softly with its song. I really need to transfer, and I’m very interested in Brown. It has a great atmosphere, something desperately lacking at Barnard.

Here are my stats:
3.74 GPA / 4.0 at Barnard College, Columbia University in the City of New York
800 V / 780 M
SAT IIs: 800 US History, 780 Writing, 760 Math IC

Intended Major: Classics Minor: Human Rights
Extracurriculars:
Women’s Clinic Escort, SAT Tutoring, clarinet in a university ensemble, work part-time in the Barnard Library

I also am a published haiku writer:
the city sleeps now.
but i do not: i’m awake.
how ironic, no?

Recs from my Latin prof, Political Science Professor Richard Pious, author of the critically acclaimed “The Presidency,” and my Yoga teacher.

Do I have a chance? Thanks!!!

You should know that Brown doesn't have "minors" -- since the curriculum is open, it's easy to double major, so we don't have minors. We also don't have a program called "human rights" but if you wanted to focus on that, you could take an International Relations, Political Science, Anthropology, or Sociology major, or you could propose your own major.

You look like a strong candidate. What exactly is wrong with the "atmosphere" at Barnard that you feel would be better at Brown? Make sure that comes across in your application. Good luck!

Hello barnardatemy_soul,

It appears as though we have a lot in common. I am now attending Barnard, and my experience here is not at all what I hoped it would be. The city is insane, and I feel a pressing need to get out. It's a good thing we have winter break coming up soon!

I really like your haiku. Do you write for the campus literary magazine? Where did you get your haiku published? It's amazing how Barnard attracts such a diverse crowd!

By the way, I've read The Presidency and it is in fact a great book. You should read it sometime if you haven't already. Pious is the man.

Do you really think a rec from a yoga instructor will help?

Peace,
LOSTinNYC

Do you girls think your problems are specific to Barnard or could apply to Columbia as a whole?
