Need to Understand English System... !!

Okay, right now I live Quebec (Canada) and I'm in the french school system, but !! I want to go to law school in a few years. So I'll probably attend an american college. Now, can someone explain me : to get into law school, how many years of college do I need to do ... I know I need to major in something but in how much time can you complete a major? I feel like a complete noob, sorry ! It seems so easy to understand, but even my english friends don't know :s

4 years for a undergrad. <i guess you could finish in 3 years, but don't...

Undergraduate: 4 years generally. Many, especially at public schools, take 5 or 6 years. Complete any major. In most cases, pre-law is not recommended.
Apply for Law School
Law School: 3 years

Some schools offer early admissions law school program for 3 years undergrad and 3 years law school. You can also apply to law school any time after college graduation.

haha i'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability, but i could be wrong on some points, in which case i'm sure someone will correct me.

first of all, are you planning on going to law school in the US? from your post it sounds like it, but i'm not sure. i'm writing this assuming that you intend to go to law school in the US.

traditionally, american colleges have 4-year bachelor's degree programs. sometimes, if you have enough credits (from APs and such, which I assume you don't have because you're in the French system), you can enter college with sophomore standing, meaning that you can graduate in 3 years. but you should plan on attending an american college for 4 years.

as for your major, you can major in anything you want. some colleges/universities have special pre-law programs that you can do, but many don't have that option. law schools do not require any specific major, so pick what suits you best. and like i said above, most majors take 4 years to complete.

p.s. it's not so easy to understand; not even those of us who have grown up around the system understand it! so don't worry about not understanding it; that's what CC is for! :)

the top 5 undergrad majors with the highest LSAT scores(used for admittnace to law school) are:
1. physics/math
2. philosophy/religion
3. Economics
4. Governmen/service
5. Engineering

but that can go back to self selection, and if by taking such majors would lower your gpa..

thanks ! you guys have really helped me :) ... and yes I do want to go to an american law school, hopefully an ivy, but that's what we all want! I was considering something like finance, economics, those sort of things ! Oh and I was wondering, since our high school here finishes a year before you do, do you think I'd be better off going a year more at an english high school to get my english back and all?

hmm... i don't think i can really answer that. try talking to your GC and contacting admissions officers at the colleges you're interested in.
