Need Transfer Advice.

Hello, I am currently a sophomore student at Seton Hall University, a small Catholic school in Northern New Jersey. Recently, I have re-evaluated my situation at Seton Hall and feel I could thrive at a more competitive school. After completing research and reviewing my grades/test scores/extra curricular activities(listed below), I have decided to apply to the University of Virginia, College of William and Mary, Villanova University and the University of North Carolina, UC Berkeley, Boston College and Richmond. I am asking anyone who has any knowledge about these schools at whether or not you think I would be able to be admitted to these schools. Thanks a ton!

Ending High School GPA: 3.1 our of 4.0
SAT score: 1850
Seton Hall University GPA: 3.498 out of 4.0 (planning on getting a 3.7 this year)

Extra Curricular activities:
-Started a Club Lacrosse team at my current school.
-Write for the school news paper.
-Part of the Italian Student Union.
-Leadership program(Business honors program).
-F.O.C.U.S.- Catholic Charity Program.

Bump, anyone??

Does anyone have any idea on any of these schools?

What is your family saying? you have a lot of OOS publics on your list that don’t give aid to OOS students/transfers. Will your parents pay for those or the privates that don’t give great aid to transfers? If not, how will you pay?

However, if your family will pay full freight, then…

Cal will likely be difficult since their transfers are usually TAG from Calif CCs.

Some of the others might accept you because you’d be payin full freight and for many schools, that’s a biggie. :)

Keep in mind that your second semester grades won’t be known when you apply.

I do understand that the expenses will go up however my family and I are ready to pay for the tuition and fees. However, do you feel I do have decent shot at most of the schools listed?

I think you’re a reach for all of them. BC doesn’t publish their CDS but all of the others use HS transcript and standardized tests (in most cases). Your HS GPA and SATs are on the low side for all those schools.

Do the schools look at my HS grades and scores because I am a sophomore?

I’m sorry, but I’m having a hard time believing this. If you were pulling an easy 4.0 at SHU because it wasn’t challenging enough, then your claim would make more sense. The fact that you’re not, suggests (to me) that if you were to go to a more difficult school then your GPA would be worse. I don’t believe that SHU is just some skate-thru school.

I am not at all saying it is an easy school. What I am saying is I do not love it here like I should I would like to transfer to a school that I feel fits me.

Don’t listen to these people. The college admissions forum is for high school seniors, there is a transfer forum for that. 3.7 is a great transfer GPA and that is way more important to you as a transfer student than your high school GPA. I think you’ll get into at least one of those schools.

Thanks alot! ill be sure to check out that other thread as well!
