Need trig for math 16A?

Since I'm a science major and math bores me, I was thinking about taking Math 16A. The problem is that it requiers trigonometry and it totally screwed me because they did'nt even offer that class in high school. I took pre-cal, but the teacher was very incompetant so I switched into AP Statistics, which totally rocked and I learned so much about stat that I can actually use it in my daily life. So my question is since I never took trig does that mean I have to take Math 1A or could I take Math 32 and then MATH 16A? The reason I dropped pre-cal was because I hated the teacher and I looked at his syllabus and I was like ***, I could learn the whole year in like 2 weeks of self-study over the summer. Dam trig it really came back to bite me in the ass!!!!

self study trig and take 16A

I'm thinking of doing that. When you sign up for classes in the math department do they really care if you have meet the prerequisets or is it just a recommendation. I doubt they would kick me out of a class because I did'nt take an official math class :)

All I can say is you won't enjoy doing analytical geometry or calculus if you aren't solid with trig. But good luck anyways if you decide to try it.

only like 10% of math 1a students have not taken AP calculus. you are at a big disadvantage in 1a if you have not taken calculus at all.

Math 16, not IA and I'm thinking about self-studying trigonometry with my older brother who will be taking a summer class in trig at college. I'll sign up for Math 16 and if I'm slightly confused in the first couple of days I will drop the class and switch in Math 32. Seems like a good plan and I doubt Math 32 will fill up (It starts at 8 am).

thanks all for the input.
