Hi, I am currently attending UCSD as a computer science major and I'm deciding on whether to even apply to transfer to UC berkeley. I just completed my first year at ucsd and i realized that it is soooooo much money to go there because i dont even get any aid from the government. If i do decide to apply and try to transfer to cal then i have heavy courseloads that i need to complete before the end of my sophmore year and i do not think i could get a good gpa if i take them. I know that a good gpa is a must to get good jobs and i am just soo confused of what to do. My parents really want me to transfer to Cal because i live close and i could save tons of money and ITS A GREAT SCHOOl right haha. but yea i need your advice of whether i should try and transfer to cal i dont wanan take the risk of having heavy courseloads and get a low gpa AND get rejected to cal. I mean do you think UCSD is prestigious and well respected enough that i would make me a good candidate to get a good job or not. Do you think going to a school like Cal and also not having a good of a gpa would be better? Thanks for your time.

Honestly you can just take internships to make up for going to a school that is less “prestigious.” GPA is one important aspect, but if you have experience it is even better. GPA is just a starting point, once you actually have a career, they will just look at your experience.

As for moving to Cal to save money. It depends really. Most likely you’ll save money by living at home with your parents. However, the cost of tution and such are the same. With that in mind it depends how much you like each school. Go visit Cal and see how much you like the campus.

As for course load, I feel each school has a set of majors or courses that are different at every university. Just study and avoid horrible professors.

Cal as EECS or CS (L&S)? Also, what’s your gpa? If its not 3.83+ I would jus save ur money and stay at UCSD because it is already an EXCELLENT school. First of all if you transfer theres a LOW chance that you’ll get IN the major because less than half of thte applicants get in. It’s your choice.

Cal is a tough school to get into but 48% is not a bad acceptance rate at all. My major, which is in the social sciences department, only accepts 25% of applicants.

I’d say that if going through the transfer process will be a big hassle for you, and you generally liked your first year at UCSD, then I would stay.

Yea I would highly recommend u not transferring because if you dont get in that major, theres no other major in L&S that you would like.

i would stay where your at . UCSD is known everywhere
