Hello everyone, son applied for UChicago EA, and now is applying for financial aid, here goes three questions from CSS profile that I have no idea how to answer them. I will listen to any suggestion you make for this three answers.

1," Enter the amount your parent thinks he or she will be able to pay for your 2013-14 college expenses."

Im considering that family will pay 20,000$ for his college expenses each year. What I worry about is is 20,000$ too little to affect his admission?

2, "Enter the total amount you expect to earn in wages, salaries, tips, etc. during the summer of 2013. (3 months)."

Son is considering 3,000$.

3, "Enter the total amount you expect to earn in wages, salaries, tips, etc. during the 2013-14 school year. (9 months)."

Son is considering 0.

Im very grateful for your help. Thanks in advance.

Those numbers are not used to compute your need based aid. Honestly I’m not sure why they even ask. Your answers are fine.

Isn’t u of Chicago need blind for admissions? If so, your financial need or lack of it, will not factor into the admissions decision at all.

If the school is need aware, the SCHOOL will take the income and asset info from your Profile, and the SCHOOL will calculate what The SCHOOL thinks you can pay. This will not be affected at all by what you put on your Profile form for what you anticipate paying.

Thanks for your help. UChicago is need-based aid, but they explain when they read applications they will go need blind.

So your opinion is that it’s not necessary to change my answers on the form?

Thank you.

If the school is need blind, they will NOT look at your financial information when determining admissions.

But as I said, the school will also calculate what they think you can pay based on your income and asset information on the Profile (and eventually the FAFSA as well).

The answers to the questions you posed above do not get factored into the calculations for need based aid. I would suggest you do the Net Price Calculator on the U Chi website and you will see that this info is not even requested. Plus…this will give you a GUESTIMATE regarding aid at the school.

Thanks for your information, it’s really helpful.
