I've heard it's pretty bad. Those FAFSA estimate calculators had my EFC down as 15,000ish per year.

Should I even bother applying for it? Michigan doesn't seem to practice need-blind admissions...

Oh! In-state, by the way

Oh! In-state, by the way

Kinda depends on your definitions. By not practicing need-blind admissions, do you mean the fact that lower SES can be a help? That's true. But in other respects, Michigan is need-blind--that is, they don't do some kind of means test and decide not to admit you because you plan to apply for aid.

As for aid being "pretty bad" are you talking about the fact that they use PROFILE? Or that they don't meet full need? Because the latter is not true--for residents, U-M meets full need.

PROFILE considers home equity, which FAFSA does not, but there are other differences too. I think it's hard to generalize and say that someone with an EFC of $15,000 with FAFSA will have an EFC greater than the cost of attendance once PROFILE is used. Too many variables involved.

For in-staters, Michigan will meet full need.

For OOS students, it varries from case to case, but on average, Michigan meets close to 90% of their needs.

For all the talk of Michigan not being good at giving aid, the average indebtedness upon graduation at Michigan is hardly higher than it is at other schools that are supposidely "generous".

Sweeeet.

If only they didn't count home equity...

One more question, are scholarships added on to your FinAid or do they replace your FinAid?

Alexandre: are you sure about this? My EFC was around 115 and I still got hit with 8K in debt....AFTER all the loans, aid, work study, etc.

The Profile counts home equity, but FAFSA does not.
