I am a sophmore in higschool and am seeing all of these posts on CC and looking at myself saying and have no chance compared to these guys. My dad is a very successful financial analyst at a big firm in L.A. He is my role model and it is my dream to be as succesful as him. I want to know what things I should do so that colleges wont just glance over my resume come time. I want to major in some time of business or science. I go to a private highschool and mostlikely when i apply senior year my weighted GPA will be about a 3.83 I am in several clubs but I will be president of JSA next year and im founding an Investment club. I have an internship at UCI in a lab. I have about 100 service hours now but will have somewhere close to 500 come admissions time. I will need no sort of financial aid. Also, my parents are putting me through a rigorous SAT prep class throught next summer so hopefully i can get a 2200+ . I have a pretty heavy courseload and by senior year will have been in ap calc ap phys ap bio ap us ap english lit ap stats and ap gov. My hook is that my sister has special needs and i am going to volunteer at an organization raising awarness for this disability. I also was the moral support when my mom was fighting the school system. I have no legacy anywhere. I need some help so I can get some other stuff on this resume. I want to make it in to a school in the top 20's. thank you for taking the time to read this.

Some help please

My advice is probably going to be a lot different from everyone else’s, but honestly you shouldn’t feel pressured to do anything. I wouldn’t recommend doing things solely to put on a resume - you should have a genuine interest in what you do.

If you’re good at teaching yourself things and you know you can be disciplined, I would advise against the SAT class (they’re a waste of money).

At least for me, the best thing I ever did was stop caring - if you know you’re a hard working person, it doesn’t matter where you end up, you’ll be successful regardless. A top 20 college on your resume is nice, but you’ll still need substance to get anywhere.

Thats what my parents tell me. I always have been told im funny and clever for my age. I have just heard from so many people that they got their job because of their college.
