What’s an economical change in east Asia from 600-1450?
Nice! I’m assuming this is for APWH.
Okay, so I’m going to try to guide you in finding a thesis for the essay. If this is a DBQ, then you should have information to construct a thesis. However, if it’s a continuity/change essay, here are some tips:
Economic - think trade routes, currency, how people made money, capitalism/socialism, etc…
East Asia - think CHINA. In the 600s, the Sui Dynasty ruled China, followed by the Tang.
In 1450, the Ming had power over China. My advice is to list what you know about the Sui/Tang and the Ming and see if there are any economic changes that you can see.
Here are some things that I would write about each dynasty (not all pertain to economic):
Sui:
Wendi
short-lived
Canals
ruthless
Tang:
golden age of arts and literature
commercialized
strong government
Song:
economic revolution because of Champa rice, population boomed
urbanized cities (Hangzhou)
neo-Confucianism
Ming:
Yongle
maritime explorations by Zheng He, quickly ended
rebuilt from Yuan rule
Hopefully this list helps you in making connections between the dynasties.
