needing suggestions for a friend!

A family friend asked me for any last minute school suggestions for her daughter, and I’m having a hard time coming up with a list. I don’t know her exact stats, her first choices are Quinnipiac and Wheaton, so around that selectivity (probably a B student and a 1100 SAT?). Her criteria:

Within 2 hours of Hartford, CT. Would potentially consider going as far as 3 hours but that would be stretching it. Doesn’t have a preference for urban/rural, but the school must have a well defined campus.

A smaller school- under 6,000.

Education major.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Maybe Clark?

allegheny college, Bennington College, Hampshire College, and westminster college are all in the region with education programs

any other new england schools that might have gotten overlooked? she couldn't care less about prestige

St Michaels in VT--maybe a little far, but a really good school. I don't know about Champlain College or Burlington College for Education, but I'm guessing they might be good. And Burlington is a GREAT--though cold--college town. I've heard good things about Clark.

How about Marist, Manhattanville, Ramapo, Iona, Pace and and Springfield

Stonehill College in Easton MA, halfway between Boston and Providence. Well known for its teacher ed: Stonehill College Academics

Assumption in Worcester has a decent rep.

I agree with poi about Springfield College--it is a fascinating place for an education major, especially if she's at all athletic. Boston College is a little bigger than 6,000 but is really good in education. How about Providence College? Most of the smaller state colleges in Massachusetts (Bridgewater State, Westfield State, etc.) started as colleges primarily for training teachers, and still produce the bulk of the public school teachers in Massachusetts.

I went to Wheaton in MA. Twin sister went to Springfield College. Sis was a lot happier than I. Springfield is a bit of a jock school but there was a lot more to do in that area than in Norton.

thanks everyone, definitely a few schools that i will be passing along!

What about Providence College? Around those stats and a geat city. Excellent education major reputation.

Try as well, Roger Williams in Bristol, RI, Salve Regina in Newport, RI.

I also second Providence, Stonehill, and Assumption Colleges. And don't count out Fairfield in CT.

Finally Wheelock College and Simmons College in Boston specialize in Education.

I think these all meet the geographic demand.

Wheelock, Simmons, and Emanuel Colleges in Boston are all in the Kenmore Square area, and all have decent education programs.

Lesley College in Boston is also well known for its education program. And as a possible reach, there's BU's School of Education. I know several B students who got in.

Siena, College of St. Rose and Russell Sage, all in the Albany, NY area and a little further afield Wells in Aurora, NY.
