Needle in the haystack :: chances

Ok

So, no I am not the average CCer with great scores, however I do not think that they repsent me accurately. Anyway, so here goes

Here are my Stats:
black male
income < $30k
***** DUAL ENROLLED ******
High School GPA: 3.6 W / 3.3 UW ( i think)
College GPA: 3.57
Rank: probably 675/730
SAT: 1110 CR + Math / 1670 including writing (wee)

classes:
i've taken a bunch of general college courses to knock them out of the way (fresh english 1 & 2, about 3 math classes, taking chemistry next semester)

ECs:
Church Youth Group
Computer / Lan Party Club
Computer tutorials at retirement center
(does this count: I used volunteer to be in charge of all the boys basketball teams statistics)

Work Experience:
Throughout my high school years i've had a total of 4 (including 1 internship) jobs to help supplment our household income. Currently I'm a systems engineer for an IT consulting firm here (I mainly maintain the networks and linux servers)

"Average" essays

I've applied to:
University of Florida
Florida State University
Northeastern University ( have to finish essay )

I'm also open to suggestions of schools where I could get aid (as little loans as possible)

tia

*** edit ***:
Intended major: Havent really decided yet.. but Computer Engineering or Accounting/Finance (leaning more towards computer engineering)

560 math
550 cr

Are you sure that class rank is correct? If so, that really limits you...and puts Northeastern way out of reach I would say. Your rank puts you in the lower 10% of your class and frankly, doesn't bode well for you despite your decent GPA.

sorry the class rank was a joke :-)

My school doesnt have any rankings.. (there's only about 100 in my class anyway, probably 230 or so total)

bizzump

...

bump? maybe my stats are not high enough to deem responses :S

I'd say that you're in at FSU.

The best shot on your list seems to be Florida State. If the other schools pay attention to your college credits, that should help at the other schools.

One of my son's friends, with better SAT's and worse grades, was accepted at Gannon (in PA) and Clarkson (in NY). Gannon had the better aid package - so he is there now and very happy. Both are a long way from Florida - but probably worth checking their websites. I know that Clarkson looks beyond the numbers - and your college courses and work responsibilities should help.
