I’m nervous, because Yale says it’s needs-blind, yet it ask us, on the supplement, if we plan on applying for financial aid…I’m of a household income that’s just beyond the needs-based aid cutoff so it’s unlikely I’ll get any, but, for various reasons, I want to apply anyway (for the aid), as we will, in no way, shape or form, be able to afford an Ivy education if I’m lucky enough to get in.
Yet, because it asks, I’m worried it’ll jeopardize my chances . Because I’m unlikley to get any aid, should I just not apply so I can answer “not applying for aid” on the app? It just makes me so nervous that they ask while also claiming to be needs-blind :-S
I’ve seen many people similar to you admitted. Your family income is too high to get any aid but Yale is still un-affordable or vastly better merit scholarships await you elsewhere.
Don’t game it – apply for it and see. The worst that can happen is Yale offers you term time employment (min wage about $12/hr!!!)
Yes, Yale is need blind. I’m pretty sure they ask so that they know whether or not to give you a financial aid offer with your acceptance (if you get in).
It would suck if a kid’s family made 10k a year but he did not receive any financial aid from Yale because Yale didn’t know that he needed it.
What is the cut off you think you have to have for Yale to not get financial aid. Your family can make well into 6 figures and you can still get aid. The cut off for total tuition room and board is $60,000. But there are plenty of students whose parents make significantly more than this on financial aid. I do admissions work. If you need more specific information please pm me. I never want a kid to miss an opportunity to apply because of misinformation about financial aid.
