I am new to these boards. I will be taking the PSAT in October as a sophmore. Last year as a freshmen I scored Math-57, CR-53, and Writ-53. I have taken 4 practice tests in the last 2 weeks to prepare and the last two occasions my scores on the 2009 curve were Math-68,
CR-69, and Writ-58. I am aiming for over a 200 this year but I really need some ways to improve my writing score. I have no idea how to study. I get all the questions right on the revise the paragraph and sentence sections but I miss almost half of the find the error section. I always feel like I did fine but my scores always surprise me. I have heard that Writing is the easiest section to improve, but I just have no clue how. Any advice would be appreciated so much.

I know the CollegeBoard has released tests for the PSATs that are like 3 bucks each.

I too am in search of writing improvement…

Bump for you.

I have bought every test they sell. They arrive Wednesday. Will taking tests alone help improve my scores?

Make sure that you understand why you missed each question that you did before you move on to the next test.

I do analyze my mistakes after every test. But I seem to make the same mistakes again and again. Are there any questions pertaining to the same grammar rule that appear frequently?

There are some very commonly tested topics, such as subject-verb agreement and pronoun ambiguity. Have you read my guide’s grammar section?

no, can you please post a link?

The grammar guide starts on post #12.

wow, thank you. I feel overwhelmed.

Any particular reason you’re so worried for the sophomore PSAT? It doesn’t count for much, other than maybe some form of self-satisfaction. In all honesty you would be better off spending this time studying for classes and maybe do some light prep for the PSAT. In my opinion the sophomore PSAT is basically prep for your junior year, where it really matters.

I see your point, however, I feel that if I get over a 200, it would be very easy next year to get national merit for florida, 211. maybe I shouldn’t, but I am getting all my homework and studying done, so why not.
