Hi, I'm about to go into my Sophomore year at Montclair State University in New Jersey. I currently have a 3.25 gpa, but plan on bringing it up to a 3.4, at least (won't have trouble). I want to transfer to a different school by the end of this year for Management Information Systems (MIS). I've been looking at a lot of schools in the New York City and Boston areas, but its really hard for me to start making a list because I don't know which schools have good MIS departments around these areas and i'm also not sure what schools I'll have a legitimate shot of getting in to. Any Suggestions are appreciated!

Doesn’t NJ have good MIS programs?

What about Rutgers?

What about your current school?

I would think that as a transfer student an instate school might be the most affordable choice.

However, if your parents are willing to pay for wherever you transfer to, I’m sure we can come up with a good list for you. Transfer students don’t often get much financial aid or merit scholarships. How much will your parents pay?

Hi, I think your right on the financial side of things. However, I’ve also wanted to look into some schools out of state as well. As far as tuition goes, I’d definitely say I need it to be on the lower side as far as price goes. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks for responding!

As far as tuition goes, I’d definitely say I need it to be on the lower side as far as price goes.

I think SUNYs/CUNYs would be the only OOS options that have OOS tuitions that are kind of on the lower side.

It’s hard to tell since at Montclair you’re paying $10k per year for tuition. Are you commuting to Montclair.

If you go to a SUNY as an OOS student, your tuition would be about $16k…PLUS room, board, books, etc…so about $26k per year.

Can you pay about $26k per year? if you’d be a junior, you can only borrow $7500 per year.

Yes, I currently dorm at Montclair. So yes, I can afford 26K.Thanks for the suggestion, ill look more into SUNY. My whole goal is to get into a school that has a better established MIS department. I also see the advantages of finishing off my schooling in the City. Any other questions or suggestions are welcomed! Thanks a lot!

Hopefully others can chime in here and say which SUNY’s have the best MIS programs.
