neee help

In college all I get are exams, quizzes, and a bunch of studying (which is expected). I worked hard thus far and got A’s in everything but I’m sad and depressed. I want to cry it’s taking a lot out of me. I am slowly losing my ability to care. What is going on with me? I have had 2 exams this past week (got a 96 on one and a 98 on other) but today I had a quiz in a class and although I knew how to do it I felt comfortable with just walking out and taking a zero because I didnt even feel like thinking of concentrating, I just want to relax and not stress anymore. I also didn’t pay attention at all to today’s lecture (which isn’t like me) because I am just starting to be careless. I want to have fun. And for the past 7 weeks I’ve just been sad and miserable. I’m afraid this type of behavior will continue. I know I can’t fail, but I’m just so exhausted. Am I burned out or just lazy? Please help.

Please make an appt right away with your college counseling department. You are obviously stressed and need to learn how to cope. Your feelings are normal, but it seems to me that you are becoming depressed. Don’t let that happen. You are already half through the semester with great grades. To walk out of a quiz is self-sabotage. Think of your parents, or your student loans. Do you want to pay money back for a wasted semester, or waste your parents money? Please be proactive, look up some techniques for coping, and get in to see a counselor asap. You can get through this, it is very common, and you aren’t alone.

You need to take a day off and just relax. While getting good grades is very important, it isn’t the best choice if it will negatively affect you this much. You need to take a break. College isn’t about perfect grades, it is about learning and its experience. Don’t try to be a perfectionist. It is healthy to take a break and not study all the time as long as it isn’t often. Go out with friends, do something fun, watch TV, do a fun activity with someone or just stay in and relax. You need to enjoy your time in college while learning, a balance is needed. If you work too hard or not enough, it will negatively impact you.

Explain to your professors what is going on, I assure you they will understand!

You have been sad and stressed for more than two weeks and it is beginning to interfere with your functioning. Please make an appointment at the student counseling center and the student health center ASAP and explain how you are feeling and the impact. You may be experiencing clinically significant depression and/or anxiety and might need treatment.
