i had the same concern w. my bio person, b/c i didn't do particulary well on the final...and she PROMISED me she wouldn't have agreed to write me a rec unless it was absolutely positive

meh~... he sent it in, not me. he just mailed me a copy. i'm just concerned that all my time i took with my essays (and the time he took writing the rec letter, which was very personal, honest, and quite right for the most part) and the app in general were killed by that rec. letter. Luckly it was only for NYU as I ended up not applying to UoC, but considering how i wrote in the explanation of secondary school letter that "i had been suspended several times in high school for disrupting class" it does not bode well. :(

the more i think about it i think about it though, i don't feel too bad about it anymore, especially "He is a very smart and intelligent young woman" rofl... and i really did wanna go to Stern...

maybe, it will still help me :)

glad to hear that my quote made u feel better =)
I hope you get into Stern - im in NYC and everyone here knows how great stern NYU is. Keep up the optimism, cuz there's really no point in being pessimistic xD

i'm pretty sure the gender mishap isn't that bad.. could've just been a typo. Your professor sounds like a prick. He needs a good tire slashing.

or "he is a child molestor" comment in ratemyprofessor.com

Definitely. :)

Hey, one of mine was an english professor and he used "she" in his first sentence for my rec, then switched to "he" afterwards. It wasn't a generic recommendation that he would just do a copy and paste for each student, so I have no idea what he was toking at that time.

Before asking for another recommendation, you should be really confident that you're in good standing with him/her. Some ARE brutally honest (as these letters are meant to be), so choose each professor carefully.

I agree and I seemed to have learned this the hard way. At any rate, I'm done with my apps now (atleast for the next two years or so). :)

Btw, bokchoi, why isn't your name "Choibok?" I'm guessing you're korean and you're screen name means Supreme Luck/Blessing/Fortune? Bokchoi sounds like Luck/Blessing/Fortune Supreme

dude thats sucks so much. if that was me, id go in there and tear the guy's face off. thats almost inhumane to do to a potential transfer applicant. professors like that should get their teaching credentials revoked. im appauld.

that sucks dude. this is where ashton kutcher is supposed to pop up out of nowhere...

No, I don't think they will reject your application based solely on this letter. I think the adcom might be surprised to hear such honesty. Now, if there are other comments in your other recs that you're "loquacious," (who uses that word anyway?) then you might have a problem.

In fact, there might be a lesson to learn from this experience. So, perhaps you'll be a little conscious about your presence in class?

Good luck!

My login ID is bokchoi because I like to eat bokchoi - I didn't even think about it meaning all those other wonderful things...haha.

we'll see. :o i'll post what happens when i get back a decision sometime next month.
