Negatives of UCLA

Girls don't want to walk from their dorms or apartments to library at night.

^that's really very universal though, and isn't particular to UCLA specifically or universities in general.

and it's smart.

People taking up spots at Powell to sleep, rather study or do something productive.

OH YES.

My love and adoration for the renovated study lounge (nee Laptop Lounge, before the sign was taken down) is well documented here. It has chairs with swingy desks and, was apparently designed for, oh I don't know. People with laptops. Who want comfortable places to sit but need desks. For their laptops.

Every time I go in there, the vast majority of people taking up all twelve of the special fancy seats are people SANS LAPTOPS. Worse, half of them are usually sleeping, SANS LAPTOPS.

There are, in my estimation, eleven billion couches/chairs/whatever in Powell. So why, friends, must people monopolize all TWELVE of the special laptop chairs IF THEY DO NOT HAVE LAPTOPS?

I, being only somewhat stubborn, refuse to let the laptopless people win when damn it, I DESERVE A SPECIAL LAPTOP CHAIR MORE THAN THEY DO. So I wait, and wait and wait. I refuse to back down and find an ill-equipped seat. And I don't wait inconspicuously. Oh, no. I stand. And I glare. All whilst holding my LAPTOP. And you know what? Sometimes it doesn't work.

But I always feel justified in my waiting.

BECAUSE THEY SUCK.

/No, I haven't been waiting for this exact topic to come up around here for 6 weeks. Why do you ask?

I think we need a rant thread for you

Emmeline Dear-

Oh, but it would be so boring to concentrate the rage into such a confined space. Especially because certain issues, like the one above, tend to bug me at the time and then I forget about them until incited. Half (ok, 2/3s) of the fun of CC for me is sorting through The Boring to find stuff I actually want to respond to.

But I don't decline because I'm afraid of the challenge. My ranting skills are so dexterous that I could probably turn every thread into a rage thread if I so desired. I am an expert complainer. But only because everyone else sucks so much.

hahah...

allie, allie, allie. good stuff.

and where is this laptop lounge in Powell??? how could i miss it

Allllll the way at the back of the reading room.

But you're only allowed to sit there if you have a laptop or I promise I'll find you and. And probably not be mean and probably not even say something but damn it, I will glare at you with hatred.

lol...i will have a laptop! promise!

It used to be great (haven't seen it this year).

I'm...hot. and a guy!!! and if you guys think that LA weather is inconsistent, then try colorado. which is where I'm from. you won't find anywhere that has blizzards one day and scorching hot days the next. yea.

The flu .. goes around the whole floor in dorms pretty quickly.

The Daily Bruin is awesome!

Not that I'm a totally biased design intern or anything...

i was about to get one of those free flu shots...but i changed my mind =/

"laptopless"

I REALLY like that word.

:p

fjkahsdfkjhd

The fact that there are 3 different geology majors in the College of Letters and Science, but no business or journalism major.

^ UCLA has the WORST major selection.

i can not even imagine going there as a freshman, thinking your going to major in X major and then decide sophmore year or something that your true intrest is in Y major and the closest to Y that ucla has is bizecon. (implying that Y would be a business major)

hm...i don't think the major selection is awful...you could do a lot worse than ucla =/

(and if you wanted, i guess you could put in the effort and create your own major)

the one negative about ucla is that it seems kinda superficial. Maybe (and probably) its just me. I was kinda expecting it to be a fashion crazy school based on the campus tours i took before being admitted, but seriously there is way too much emphasis on looks. Ive visited SD, Cal, irvine, and stanford and none of them match LA in this aspect. This may just be a teenage, hormonal thing fueled by the media, but i was hoping it would all end in high school. Unfortunately it hasn't...sigh
