Are Merit Scholarship Amounts negotiable with private schools?? I received $3k ($42k/yr tuition), which is very very little. I am not eligible for need-based, but want to know if anyone had any experience with this.

i don't think merit aid is negotiable. need-based aid usually is though.

$3K/yr is a token given to almost everyone IMO. You can ask though. Provide as much supporting info as possible as to why you need increase. Competitive offers, moving up in class rank, new awards since application, etc.

My D got $967/yr from NYU. She's of course not going there.

I hope you have the $$ or other school choices.

well....they have 5 different levels

1) $3k
2) $7.5k
3) $12.5k
4) Half-Tuition
5) Full Tuition or Full Tuition minus the cost of your leading state school (in other words, you pay what ever your state school would of costed)

I at the least want to move to #2.

Oh yeah, they offered me a private loan that has a interest rate of 11% and a prepayment penality of 3%.

^ Ripoff!

I received $6.5k from one of their competetor (their tuition is $20k). Maybe I will try to use that.
