neo-marxism

So, how many of those of you attending this fall are interested in philosophies and movements regarding class struggle? Let me know if you've read Hardt and Negri's "Empire".

Communismsz.

I generally find class struggle to be an outdated concept in the 21st century. Society seems to be moving backward to more atavistic tribal identities of ethnicity, religion, language, etc…

Since both “class struggle” and these tribal struggles tend to result in conflicts or “solutions” even worse than before, I’m not a fan of either and just wish we could be nice liberalists and go to starbucks and make money, a small amount of which goes into a market-oriented welfare state. But hey, that’s just me.

I am interested in many things. In fact, I have a long list. My interest in class struggle is listed just a little below my interest in having lemon juice poured into a paper cut.

But come on guyyyyyysss, the proletariat must rise again!

Class struggle at an Ivy League school? Are you serious? You might find a few malcontents at Penn who are willing to be your comrade, but my guess is that you’d have more success at a school whose yearly tuition didnt’ approach the average annual income for an American family.
