Hello,

I've heard a lot about NEOUCOM. I live in Ohio, so many people I know that are interested in the BS/MD program get into the 6 year program. However, I've heard that a lot of the times, the doctors that come out of the program are not as experienced? Or that the classes are just ridiculously hard. I know this varies from person to person, but could someone tell me..honestly what they have heard/or been through if you go there. Thanks.

If you live in Ohio, apply to all bs/md’s in Ohio, why choosing only NEOUCOM, Ohio has more combined programs than possibly any other state. Some of them accelerated, others not. Non-acclerated have thier benefits like normal college experience and a chance to develop into more mature person and hence to be better prepared. Some classes are brutal (weed out) no matter where you go with good number of pre-meds changing their major. Be prepared for that.

False. Even for the accelerated 6 yr programs, the cut of 2 yrs comes from the undergrad portion. (And seriously, as a pre-med, what are you missing out on? 2 additional years of misery? Of staying in the library and studying while everyone else is enjoying their college years?)

In all these programs, you’ll have 4 years of medical school. Most likely you’ll spend years 1 and 2 learning via lectures (pre-clinical years)

And you’ll spend years 3 and 4 doing rotations getting clinical exposure. Which means you’ll come out of the program as experienced medically as any other medical student from your class. The only thing you’ll be missing are 2 additional years of misery from pre-med.

"2 additional years of misery? " - or having an awesome time at college like most of my D’s friends.

You say other programs. Do you mean toledo/OSU/miami? I’m not sure of any others.

^Yes, I do not know others either. Keep in mind that Miami includes Cincinnati (and maybe Dayton?) and Toledo has 2 separate programs Biology / md and Biomedical eng. /md. Of course NEOUCOM is 3 different UG. Altogether is a lot of choices for UG.

Sorry, one more in OH, but it is impossible to get in: Case PPSP

The doctors that come out are just as experienced as every other medical school graduate. NEOUCOM is a medical school and therefore the graduates are not inferior to other medical schools. My friend just graduated NEOUCOM and has a residency program for cardiology. Believe me, if you ace your boards, you will get a residency program that you like… ;]
