nepali thread.

dudes, I've no idea 'bout safety colleges(except the oklohoma one) and seems like I really need to have 4-5 of them in my list. 'd u plz suggest some that offer good aid .

chochu where are you studying?

sweta, hope u r getting better. i m at kenyon. its in ohio, but it rocks!!! i m having a great time here. the only prob is, there is too much homework, but i guess it's worth it. the best part is, the people here are amazing. dont mean to brag on, but this place is just absolutely friendly.
abt the aid, its pretty much random actually. if u r really lucky, u might get more than they say they can give u but that ll b bcoz the coll finds some new funding sources or u get a special scholarship that everyone is eligible for or sth like that. u can take the risk if u can afford it and are really interested in the college, but i think it best to just apply to another college that is more likely to give u more aid.
i dont think anyone got into bucknell this year, but i m not sure.
have fun!!

chochu u online right now? i wanna talk to you!

himalayandreams, i checked with wustl but they don't seem to want to answer the question about minimum expected amount.

"Washington University in St. Louis is committed to helping talented students who show exceptional academic performance and outstanding promise. The Academic Scholarship and Fellowship Programs offer financial assistance based solely on academic achievement."

Their merit-based aid is excellent though.

hello..
i m new here...anywayz...glad to be a part of nepali thread...two thumbs up for u sweta...gr8 job starting the thread...anywayz...himalayandreams... washington has averge aid that's half of the comprehensive tution fees...tution fees is something like $48000 and aid's like $21000 (according to collegeboard it's $25000)...however..it's real low nevertheless...so applying to washington doesn't make much of sense unless u got excellent grades and SAT score...then they might just give u some more cash for ur college...the aid allocated for international students is $2,846,458....so that'snot high nor too low...so if u got what it takes...no prob in giving it a shot!!!

don't worrie be happie...

ppl the situation u r discussing is the same at all major colleges that fund international students. If u r really gud u may end up getting a full free ..ride
But luck is also a major factor .. so dont worry and just apply

smartmind...yeah ur right...if ur good..uget the free ride...however...can u define good...i mean..i don't want to sound pessimist but i think there's alwyas one betterguy than anyone in the college ur applying to...so just thinking that it's wise to be in the safer side than be sorrie...and being over confident and wasting ur ED1 applying to colleges with low aid average makes no sense at all....

some colleges are more need-based than others.. wustl is more for merit based unlike many of its peers. so discussing wustl is different from discussing ivies when it comes to aid.

absolutely...aaron56...so himalayadreams...u should reconsider...but like i said..if u got good application package...go kick the ball...if u don't get satisfied with the outcome..u got ed2...and there's RD..if u r a good student...so mustn't be a problem to u...anywayz....aaron56...u got any info abt financial aid provided by lehigh for Ed1....hit me....

hey...smartmind..can u helpme out...u got any information aboutthe financial aid provided by lehigh university for interantional students in ED1...

i had considered lehigh for ed1 too! but no one around here seems to know about aid for intls... well for nepalis especially. so i chose not to apply ed to lehigh. according to random (unreliable?) sources, chances are significant finaid seekin ppl like us are usually deferred anyway.

but don't take my word for it. i'm just as confused/ignorant as you

if u haven't read the previous pages, this is what chochu444 had to say,
i suggest that u dont apply to lehigh for ED.... because they dont give good aid at all.... lehigh doesnt reject many ppl but tells me that they'll need to pay more if they want a place... they told me to pay around $12000
No info dude about lehigh university univ financial aid package.........

And about the better guy, well no matter how hard u try to succeed there will always be a guy/ gal who is better than you . But do not panic out for that as it is pretty normal . The so called better guys are not the only ppl around . These ppl are the minority and u are the gud but not so great ones are majority. There are enough aid package given to the normal ones also. And why do we keep forgetting that college admission is not all about stats that are so dumb in themselves. Ur essay , reco, Ecs all matter , and if u work on that ur app. will be great .Also , i must specify that almost all colleges will have a definite quota for applicants from a specific region of globe. So try to be the best in the locality( by locality i mean the broad geography and not immediate neighbours) , and u will end getting the best aid.

And anyways , do not worry abt all this , apply with all the might and u never know, u may be the lucky one to get the full ride......
Let the Hope be still alive.......

whoa!...12000..that's a huge sum of money...but i don't know...i mean...unless i know all the infos on grades and SAT ..scores...ECs..recos...and everything...of chochu444 ...i can't decide whether to apply to lehigh or not...i mean..my colleg package might be better so i got greater chances or...may be chochu's package is better...and by the way...browsing through colegeboard...finaid...lehigh's website...it's clear they offer aid...how much is the question...and as smartmind said...if u got a good package...u get the free ride...so i think i will go ahead with my ed1 decision...hit me...

go ahead and apply... tht's the only way you'll know for sure. and if it's your first choice, why not?

moreover, aren't they supposed to give you what you ask for in ED if they are to accept you?

Ur decision ...but the fact remains, that if u dont get the aid u need, u can even reject the ED acceptance. So if u dont get enough aid at Ed reject lehigh and wait for regular round decisions.
And dont be fooled by any info on website that says the college gives out aid to intels. That info is queky and weird , try getting stats of aid ppl got and make a general estimate of what they seem to look in an applicant .
Then compare urself, maybe u'll find that the results are pretty optimistic.....

And also as i said earlier, try doing a search for lehigh in CC to get posts that give first person info.,that could help

...aaron56..well..i want to apply...but in the same time..i dont' want to risk my ed1...but anywayz..it seems i got no options..and yeah...i am ready to pay upto $4000...can't afford more...lolz....so i guess i will go ahead andtake the shot...

smartmind...ya i took ur suggestion and tried searching for infos abt lehigh in CC..but couldn't find anything...may be i couldn't find the right tools to do the serch thin or soemthing...anywayz...u know how i can get info abt the lehigh students...may be they can tell me something abt it...

go to the website and look for info on present students .. if can find it.. there are links and emails to ppl from various countries who willigly help prospective candidates......Sometimes called in as student ambassadors..... may be u'll get that......
