So school's over and I've narrowed down the list of colleges that I am planning on applying to this fall and was just wondering whether i could get some feedback on my chances are at some of the schools could be. I'm looking for honest answers so just hit me with the truth.

I am a white male at a private school in Ohio.

4.15 Weighted GPA...3.9 UW
Ranked in the top 5% but don't have exact rankings
34 ACT
2100 on the SAT (680 CR, 760 M, 660 W)

Our school does not let us take APs/Adv. until Junior Year and i have taken as many as my school will let me.

Junior Year APs/Adv:
AP Calculus AB
AP US History
Adv. Brit Lit

Senior Year APs/Adv:
AP Calculus BC
AP Gov
AP Physics C
AP English

Extracurriculars

Football (all 4 years)
Track (3 years)- Captain next year
National Honor Society
Student Ambassador
Student Government- Senior Class President
Justice League
Junior Leadership Akron- one of only two kids from my school to get invited
about 300 hours of community service including service trip to El Salvador this summer
Starting Theology Club next year- already have the plans

I'm not sure whether it makes a difference or not, but I will be the first one in my family to attend college.

I'm thinking about:

Bucknell
Case Western Reserve
Cornell
Colgate
Fordham
Lehigh
Princeton
Stanford- it's been my dream school for years
Villanova

Right now I am considering majoring in Astronomy or Physics.

Thank you for any kind of feedback you can give!!

Are you going to try to be recruited?
Based on numbers alone, it's looking like average chances. Decent GPA, SATs a little below average, and decent ECs, but nothing that really stands out IMO. (this is for Princeton and Stanford, at least)
If you're planning on being a recruited athlete, it should be a lot easier, I think.

Football, you should add Amherst and Williams to your list, especially if you're recruitable for division 3 football or track. Even if you're not interested or qualified on the varsity level, they really like kids with athletic backgrounds. Both have excellent sciences. Williams particularly for astronomy and physics.

Your SAT CR is a little on the low side for the most selective schools but your ACT is good, your GPA and rank are good, first generation is good and sports could push you over the top. Put a lot of effort in your essays!

I agree with everyone. You're scores/grades etc aren't going to get you into Stanford and Princeton. I think you have a decent shot at the rest of them though. Especially Bucknell etc. You should definitely narrow down your list a bit more though. That's a lot of schools to be applying to. For example I'd probably only apply to one Ivy etc.

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure that i could play football at most DIII schools, but wanting to is another story. Right now I'm thinking that i would really want to, but I go through stages where I love/hate it. Also, what is a BWRK.

I know how you feel about the football thing. Except my sport isnt football. Still fit out the recruitment forms and all because the coach puts in a few good words. Its probably what got me into college at all, ha

I applied to 14 schools, so do as many as you want. You ACT is very very good so send that instead of the SATs wherever you can. Everything else seems competative and I'd definitely go for them all! Also think about what SAT 2s you are going to take becuase some of the better schools require them...

I've got another question. I just checked my most recent ACT scores from the June test and i went up in Math and English, but I went down in Science. My composite stayed the same at 34. Will colleges see the individual highest test scores or do they only see scores that went with the highest the composite? OR do they only see the composite and not even see the individual test scores?

For the individual scores, all the colleges will see that science went down. I doubt any of them will care.

On another note, if you love Physics or Astronomy, I suggest applying to UC Berkeley, not because its my college, but because these two departments at Berkeley are top notch and highly ranked and regarded.

Oh sorry a BWRK is a bright, well rounded kid. Overall good stats and nice pick of EC's. Sounds good right? The problem is every applicant is like that these days, so you're actually boring and bland. O_O

Btw, if u apply ED to Prince or Stan, you will probably get in, b/cuz they place greater weight on athletic ED's. And write a really nice essay about being the first in family to go to college.

Don't worry, youve got pretty good chances if u go ED

Thanks for all the imput. Justice League is a creative name for the group at my school that protests different injustices and takes a stand on ethical issues in the world like abortion for example. We've gone to rallies in Wash DC and Georgia. Just to update i got my scores back on my AP exams:

Everyone here needs to remember: the OP's not-so-great SAT scores are totally negated by the 34 on the ACT. On every thread, people overlook this. You are in at all those schools save Princeton and Stanford pretty much automatically if you don't screw up something on the application. Do Stanford SCEA or Princeton ED to improve your chances, and try to get recruited even if you don't want to play. Remember, if you decide to quit playing football once you're at college, even if football was an admissions factor, it's not like they are going to kick you out of the school or revoke all your financial aid.

Yes 34 is an AAAAAAMAZING score so you got it there. Good scores because now you can bypass a few classes automatically. Cool league...were u pro-choice? I would have joined that...

Thanks. Nope we were all pro-lifers. That's what the rally in DC was for. But I've got one other question. Do you think that the apparent lack of interest from my ECs (ex. no science related ECs at all) to my intended majors will hurt my chances at some of these schools?
