I'm currently a junior in a very competitive high school. I have a 3.9 GPA (weighted), about 3.5 (unweighted) - and this places me in the top quarter of my graduating class. As far as my SAT scores go, I got a 1980 (CR: 710, M: 600, WR: 670) and I'm retaking it. I expect each score to go up about 20-30 points since I'm reviewing more heavily so that would put me in the 2040-2060 score range. My extracurriculars are one of my stronger attributes (numerous clubs including International Amnesty, Cancer Awareness, Film Club, Lecture Society, Orchestra, National Honor Society, National French Honor Society,Gay-Lesbian Alliance, Debate etc.) with some leadership experience in a couple of those groups and some job experience as well. This summer, I will be attending Columbia Pre-College Programs as well. My essay is what I'm least worried about because I consider myself a very good writer, and I know that the essay is important for most colleges, I just don't know if its enough to make up for my low GPA.

Most of my schedule consists of AP/honors classes (I will have taken 12 AP course by the time I graduate) with A's and B's in all of them so far.

As far as diversity goes - I'm Middle Eastern and a gay male. I've joined local organizations to represent those aspects of myself.

Chance me for the following schools please :)

For a good portion of the schools you mentioned I STRONGLY advise at least a 2100-2250 on the SATs, GPA’s good, so are EC’s.

No offense, nothing against you, but I’ve heard some colleges look down on homosexual applicants. Though I’m not EXACTLY sure, but yeah. But heck, someone has to break the routine, let it be you! Though it varies by college. Good essay topic btw with Middle-Eastern and Homosexual (not making fun of you at all, trust me).

Get some 5’s on those AP’s though. Other than that, Columbia and Cornell are crapshots anyway. You consider Georgetown, UChicago, and Northwestern?

It’s still a little foggy that whole issue, I would think liberal arts colleges would more open to that. Someone told me (not exactly me, but, you know) that you should mention all EC’s to colleges unless its something suggestive like GSA.

Like I said, somebody is always the first to break the barrier.

BU has a pretty big gay population (Not BIG, ya know? But bigger than a lot of other schools). So I’m sure they wouldnt look down on you there at all.

And wait…aren’t colleges not allowed to judge you on your sexual orientation?

Like I said, its a foggy issue, and it’s hard for many to be who they are. Though there are certain schools labeled as being safe for homosexuals.

They aren’t, but once again, like I said, it varies, it’s a sensitive issue. We can’t quite enter the mind of an adcom you know.

Don’t take this all too… shocking. I hope you reach out and slam into every school you want.

Your UW GPA is too low. Cornell and Columbia are almost literally impossible. NYU is a high reach. The rest you’re probably pretty likely to get into.
