Hey Everyone, I'm a junior in high school who lives in NOVA and wants to go to University of Minnesota(Carlson School of Management). My unweighted GPA is like a 3.1 and my weighted GPA is like a 3.73, which I know is terrible, but I know if I work hard I can do better.
This year I am taking AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP CS, and AP USH, Honors English, Physics, (there's no honors), and Band.
Next year I am planning on taking Multi-Var Calc, AP Stats, AP Econ, AP Comparative Gov, AP Lit, AP Physics, Concert Band, Jazz Band
My first SAT is a 1840(1240 Math + CR) but that was my sophomore year and I know I'll do much better this year. I'm expecting it to go up the next time I take it.
My EC's are, and I'm gonna include my senior year as well:

4 Years of Band/Jazz Band
3 Years of Marching Band with 1 Year of leadership role(next year)
Band Historian for 1 Year
4 years of It's Academic/Quiz Bowl ( Captain for three years)
4 years of Young Democrats (President for 2 Years)

Can someone chance me on my chances of getting in if I apply for the priority deadline. I would like to go to the Minnesota Carlson school of Management for a degree in Information Systems

C’mon 84 views and no replies. Please, can someone respond. Both my parents and I are really nervous about college. The GPAs that I’m seeing when I look into schools is like, everyone has over a 4.0, which is really nerve wracking. I would be greatly indebted to anyone that can chance me into getting into Minnesota and/or recommend another school that i should look into

Well, here are my stats, and I was accepted into Carlson.

Rank: 20
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.14777 weighted
ACT: 30
AP classes: World History (4), US History (4), Calculus AB (5), Calculus BC(will take), Physics B(will take)

Extracurriculars: Not very many. Joined an ultimate Frisbee club, weight lifting club, won a few awards in 9th grade for academics.

Average ACT is 29 and rank is 10% for Carlson.
If Minnesota is your only choice, you could try for an economics degree in their College of Liberal Arts.

I’m not being mean but I think Carlson is beyond your reach. Most of the people I know in Carlson were top 5-10% of their class, had SAT’s over 2000 and had really high GPA’s. As far as getting into the University all together, I think you stand a fair shot at getting into CLA. Maybe a 70% chance.

Don’t worry Radical Car I’m not offended. That’s the reason I put this post up, so I could find out. The funny thing is that my stats match the rest of the school, but it seems carlson is a million times harder to get into lol

Are there any other schools that I might be able to get into. I’m looking into:
In State: JMU, VTech
Out of State: Maryland, Indiana, Syracuse, Ohio State, Bentley, Illinois

I think you have a decent shot at JMU and Indiana. Being a dude will help at JMU and I don’t think Indiana’s very competitive outside of their business school.

Then again if I had to guess you’ll probably get into CLA at Minnesota. Come and kick ass your first year and then transfer from CLA into Carlson.

Yeah, I don’t believe they use standards for their separate schools. You are admitted into the University as a whole. With the amount of AP’s you’re taking and extracirriculars, you would have a chance.

Also, pro tip: You never know if you don’t try.

Also, I think it is important to point out that my class rank is like top 30%, because many kids in my class take easy classes and have 4.0 or 4.0+ GPAs

Okay, so atleast Purdue is one school that I have a shot to get into. Any other schools that you think I can get into. How about University of Maryland, Syracuse, or Penn State. I’ve been told by people that I could get into Penn State but it’s like 40 K out of state, and even though my parents say they’ll pay for it, I don’t know if I want to put that much stress on them. One question I want to know is that if I get into like JMU and then get into a better school out of state like Purdue or Penn State, is it worth 40 K, because of the schools.

Trumpet guy-in my limited experience you won’t know until you apply-please do! We visited UM last summer and were sure my son did not stand a chance-his SAT’s were borderline at what they said they wanted. But he got an offer of free application and no essay so he applied. He got accepted in November but was holding out for his #1 choice. He got wait listed there so did confirm last week to MN. Sometimes I think they are looking for more than grades. Concentrate on working hard next year and best of luck, but most importantly quit stressing, it will all work out fine!
