Nervous about my chances at these schools.

Well, I’m an international student and I’m applying to MIT, FIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech and Caltech. I want to do aerospace engineering as my major (if i get to do a minor, itll probably be in statistics or math).
Anyway, I should rattle my numbers early so you don’t get bored.
MY SAT isnt that high, its 2230: 800 Math, 760 Writing and 670 CR
Im not taking the SAT again because I do not think ill get much higher than that; trust me, I checked: this score is past one sigma of my mean. (plus 760 and 670 symmetry :P)
My Subject tests were: Math 1: 800, Math 2: 800 and Physics: 800. Im really glad I got those scores; it really took a load off of me.
Anyway, in my regional (Caribbean exams), I’ve placed within the top 10 (out of the entire Caribbean) a couple of times…
In 2014 for my O-Levels, I placed: 1st in Physics, 1st in Literature, 2nd in Additional Mathematics, 5th in Chemistry and 6th in IT
In 2015 for my A-Levels (U1), I places: 1st in Physics, 6th in Pure Mathematics, 6th in IT.

I do not have much EC’s but i do the little that I have with alot of passion
I have been playing guitar for a little over 10 years now and I have had a rock band for 5 years. We’re pretty good for whats that worth but I love it more than anything. We’ve won a couple music awards and we’ve shared stages with many famous Caribbean artists. We also have a studio recorded song which played on Caribbean radio and we have been on Live TV throughout the Caribbean.

Also, I’m involved with my country’s mathematics Olympiad (I have been a member for about 3 years now). I train on the national team every saturday (or whenever they say so) and I try every year to make it to the IMO (Ive never made it once though :frowning: Ill try harder this year.)

And well, in my school, I founded the math club and I teach the younger ones about interesting stuff in mathematics that they wont see in the classroom and I try to get them to appreciate how math occurs in everyday life. I’m also an active member of my school’s guitar club where I teach some simple music theory and regular guitar stuff.

And for what its worth, my school chose me as a student prefect to act as a role-model for them and as a mediator between staff and the student body.

I appreciate any comments and I hope you can give me any advice whatsoever to help me with my application.

Thank you in advance!

OH! And my GPA is 4.0, unweighted. My schooling system doesn’t have anything to do with weighted GPA’s.

Sorry… I forgot something else. My class (we use forms here) rank is 1/120 so I’m in the top 10.

I’d say you have a decent chance but being and International student means the competition is fierce

Your stats and ec’s line up for the most part so focus on those essays because they are just as important. Even the most qualified applicants will get rejected if their essays are cliche and boring

Quite honestly all your EC looks good however like the person above me said, international competition is fierce and although you have the stats its going to be hard getting accepted to places such as MIT, Stanford, and Caltech.

Good luck!

Thank you. I’m working hard to put finishing touches on all my essays. I’m pretty sure I wrote good, unique essays; I have a lot of weird and interesting stories from my musical career. Thank you again… your comments honestly boosted my confidence.

@AdrianM :

FIT and GA Tech for sure. The others, even though you have good stats for them, all have acceptance rates lower than 10%. Wherever you end up, I’m sure you’ll be happy!

What do you hope to do with the aerospace engineering degree?
If you are hoping that the US companies will employ you that has a very low chance of happening.

Unless you are a US citizen, it will be hard to become employed in that field. Aerospace engineers typically need a US security clearance to work under certain government contracts.

Most students return to their countries for employment after they’ve received their degrees.

I’m planning to become a US citizen. But that will not stop me anyway. I know I can do it
