Not having taken AP Calculus and AP Physics, and given the relatively low SAT (average for the CoE is 1420 I think), I would say Michigan is a reach. However, your school may have a strong connection to Michigan, so I would ask your school counselor to share some of last year’s data with you?

The scattergram for Michigan from my school has me in the middle of two kids who both got accepted EA, so that is pointing in my favor. Also should note that nobody from my school with a 4.0 besides someone who had an 1800 SAT score has ever been rejected by UMich. Overall, although it probably should, it doesn’t make me feel much better because every case is subjective. Figured I could get a wider outlook by reaching out to people on here. Thanks!

You can never be too sure, not with reaches, but you obviously have a shot since other students from your school got in with similar stats. Good luck.

Thanks for the insight!

pacollegekid, are you taking non-AP calc and physics because your school doesn’t offer the AP version or for other reasons?

If it’s the former, Michigan shouldn’t hold it against you, though your SAT score might still make it something of a reach. If it’s the latter, the university will definitely be in reach territory.

Both are only offered by my school if you’ve completed the regular course first.

I think the 4.0 makes Michigan a match but not a slam dunk. It’s OK to be nervous. Good luck and Go Blue!

Thanks for the feedback res ipsa. (Hopefully) Go Blue!

It is hard to be a match for UMich CoE these days considering the ever dropping admission rate. Your SAT is near the bottom of mid 50 last year for UMich over all but CoE would put more emphasis on the Math score. Your GPA is good and course rigor is okay. You should try to bring up your scores for a better chance. Your current CR+M is rather low for CoE.

Thanks for the answer. Do you think that UM puts more emphasis on GPA or test scores? Obviously I’m very happy with my GPA, and I come from a school where the regular classes are harder than AP classes at most other schools (my counselor submitted our curriculum strength info to UM per the usual), but my test scores are holding me back. Unfortunately, I have just never been a good standardized test taker. My counselor said that when she looked at past kids from my school who have been accepted to UM, I am a strong contender, but not a shoe-in obviously. Hoping my GPA and the rest of my application make up for that a little. Thanks again!

bump

UMich put more emphasis on GPA then score.

Well thats very good news for someone like me who has the highest GPA possible. My school does not weight or rank , so I do not have that information. Thanks again!
