collegecountdown, would it matter whether I got my essays done quickly or not (but still before my SAT score report reaches them), since they will only evaluate my application after they receive every piece?

if its a safety school, you can report that you've taken the SAT again, and just submit your current SATs, which will probably be enough to get you in, if they're 1350+. Short answer: for a safety, just do it and send it in, IMO

KRabble - You are right, your SATs will probably have to catch up with the rest of your app in any case. But there is the chance that your SATs will get there far faster than they are saying. That did happen in some cases I was reading about on the Michigan board.

26e - I'm not sure KRabble is talking about waiting for November scores - I think he means sending the ones he's got. Let's ask him.

It all depends. How much weight do they put on SAT II scores? I can send my SAT I scores from Oct. but I took the Math 2 SAT II in Nov., and I'm curious of what I got. If I did well, then I'll definitely be sending them!

Also, how many SAT IIs do they strongly recommend? I have two SAT IIs scores that I can send, but they're both in science (physics and chemistry). My physics is on the weaker side compared to other UMich applicants (650) but my chemistry (my intended major) is a 760. Should I just send these scores? I'm really afraid I'll get rejected because my SAT scores got there late or something. If they recommend two SAT IIs, I'll just send the physics and chemistry, but if they want more, I guess I'll have to wait a week before sending the SAT II from Nov.

I'll probably finish the rest of my application over the weekend and just do mediocre essays (bleh!).

What's the reasoning behind their not receiving of rushed scores? WHAT THE HECK!!

if you want to send your november scores.....you have to rush the scores in as soon as you receive them. i heard they dont really start to do heavy reviewing until around thanksgiving break. however, you cant just send two scores. you have to send all the scores....thats how it works....when you send score reports it sends all the scores you have ever received. buuuuut, they only look at your top two sat ii scores so you dont have to worry.

I don't think Michigan requires SAT II scores at all, in fact. I think they say that if you have them, however, they will consider them. Do a search on the Michigan board for SAT IIs. If you have to wait until you first get back your November scores and then add another 5 weeks to that, IMO you are getting late into the process. People start applying there in August and September, but even though they give Feb. (1st?) as their deadline, most people are getting them in by now.

Short answer, as 26e says, get them in now.

Ha ha, we're confusing people now, talking about other schools. I guess this started out talking about whether we could apply to both and kind of went off track from there! KRabble - feel free to PM me with any questions about the Michigan app - but do read the Michigan board -it answers alot of the questions I had, too.

aye. i thought it was a general Q, though. I didnt know we were talking about Meeeechigan. But i agree with countdown at any rate. Umich, though, i don't think places a lot of weight on SAT II's. The focus for them will probably be SAT I's. Big state school like Umich use out-of-staters to lower their admit rate and increase their SAT I ranges, i think, so SAT II's won't help them in USNWR rankings, and they don't have that ivy league need of differentiating billions of qualified applicants. make sense?

26e - Yes, I'm sure that's right.

I'm going to finish my application and get it in by the weekend and next monday latest. Is it okay if my essays will be pretty mediocre? (as in, I won't invest as much time in them as I have for my Penn application!)

Should I just send my 2 science SAT IIs and my SAT I score? If so, I won't wait for my Nov. scores to come back, and I can literally send them tonight, but I think I'll ask my guidance counselor tomorrow just in case. Hmm... help!

Yes, I really think so.

This really sucks. I thought I would be okay sending my application in by next week, but I had no idea they didn't accept rushed scores. What's the point of not accepting rushed scores?

The large state universities get so many applications, just to keep up with the paperwork is overwhelming. Apparently rush scores are sent on separate pieces of paper. They just don't want to deal with it, and only accept the scores from one source - the regular list, which they download without as much effort.

KRabble - I PMed you with the long version of my Michigan saga!

I don't think they really need to see the score report when they are deciding your admission, because they ask you for the scores...dont they?..well they did on the Penn app...I'm sure they assume those scores are correct when deciding if you're in or not, and then if you do get in, they confirm your scores with the report. That seems logical to me because I sent my SAT scores to Penn only several days before nov 1. With 3-5 weeks it would get there late nov or early dec, and we find out admission on dec 10. So my theory is they go by what you say, and then confirm it with your score report. Obviously if you lied they don't want you in their school. haha

i still don't hv an interview!!!!!
all i got it's a postcard said they got my application...
i guess it's because im an international applicant?!

anyway, got cambridge's interview in one month. panic!!!!!

you applied to cambridge!! im so jealous.. the campus is.. incredible!!

i know. when i visited i was like wow!!!
and the college i apply to is clare (next to king's) and it is beautiful!!!
i don't know whether to go to the states or stay in uk now.
but i don't hv offer from either so i will be happy to go to either if they give me an offer!!!!

I still haven't gotten one of the postcards that confirm they've received my application.....I'm a bit worried.

Good news, though, I think my interview went well. Good luck to everyone else out there:)

I also got onto Penn State and Pitt this week, and although it was nice to see those big envelopes, I'm not very enthusiastic about either school.

I would be Ok with going there, just not ecstatic.

When I think about getting Rejected or deferred from Penn, I get a really queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach.........

Question: I just got promoted from an Assistant Editor of the Newspaper to an Editor, which is really good considering I've had to work my butt of to make this position in a year when it usually takes people 3 years to make Editor. Do you think it would be appropriate to send a short letter to Penn to let them know of this recent development?

I really want them to know that I'm an Editor.

Any thoughts?

wow, u already got accepted to PSU & Pitt? That's great! I really got to send in my app to Pitt! Don't forget pitt housing, b/c i think they say you have to put your name in the housing list, cuz i guess this is how it works: they create the list first-come, first-serve, and in May, when they get the yea/nay's from everyone, they take of non-admits, and thats the order you get qeued, and your housing preference sheet goes in order (i know that makes no sense). I know its hard to focus on, but you really need to do it. I feel a little guilty making a "Pitt post" in the Penn forum, but whatever. Seriously, though, Pitt is amazing. I love it just slightly less than penn. Theres a few details that make me love penn, but really the only reason Pitt fell to #4 is that the student body isn't as bright as others (ie Penn). But still, I LOVE pitt :)
