Nervous Applicant deferred from Yale: Chance me, I chance you!

Yale, Duke, Cornell and Brown are somewhat iffy, all the rest you should be in just fine.

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/622237-so-am-i-totally-screwed-3.html</a></p>

"Full-Tuition Scholarship, Honors College, and Law School admission at University of Pittsburgh "

wow. I wish someone could do that for me and med school

I’m surprised you were deferred, to be honest! Your GPA is really high, but how can 48 other people at your school be higher than you?

Other than your class rank, and unknown/subjective matters (recs, essay), the only thing that I can see that’s strange about your app is that you’ve listed absolutely NO ECs not pertaining to politics. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re the national leader of a huge group and the state leader of two other large organizations, you should be in (I don’t know the groups, but it seems like a big deal). But did you do anything else in high school? Sports, music, fun clubs and whatnot?

BTW: w00t Boy’s State! Also, I was a political intern too, just on the other side of the isle, lol.

i don’t know why you didn’t get in this year… your stats are perfect

Thanks for all the replies so far! Getting around now to returning the favor.

@coolwhipsandwich: Nice, always great to meet a fellow Boys Stater! =) For my rank, it’s unweighted, and at my school sadly a lot of people take the “regular” courseload with no AP’s and get easily high GPA’s. Plus, my low freshman year grades knocked it down a bit. I should be higher by the end of the year with my current trend. As for EC’s, I do a few other things been most of them I’m just a member in (since my politics activities take up a good amount of time haha) so I didn’t/don’t consider them important, but I’ve been in Math Club, run Cross Country and Track, and have written for the school newspaper all four years. I also was a small officer in the school’s Key Club too for a year.

@Jcancollegebound: I think Pitt has the same guranteed-admission program for medical school too, as do a few other colleges, it’s def. a nice feeling to know you have a grad school to go to already (as long as you meet GPA requirments of course)

For Cornell, JHU, Duke, Brown: Your SAT scores are definitely in par, so I’m going to say this depends on your essays.

Your ECs (in fact, everything in your stats), demonstrate an impressive connection with politics. I’m quite sure you wrote your essay topics on this. Definitely, it would make you stick out and show your passions. If you did that, you have a great chance.

As you already know I’m sure Duke/Brown will be tougher, but for Cornell/JHU, you have an excellent chance.

Don’t forget to chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/626211-chance-brown-princeton-cornell-cmu-etc.html</a></p>

CUNY Baruch College: Macaulay Honors College - 95%

American University - 95%

George Washington University: Honors College, Elliot School of International Affairs - 90%

New York University: Stern School of Business - 85%

Cornell University: School of Industrial and Labor Relations - 80%

Georgetown University: School of Foreign Service - 85%

University of Chicago - 75%

University of Pennsylvania: College of Arts and Sciences - 75%

Johns Hopkins University - 80%

Duke University - 75%

Brown University - 75%

Yale University (Deferred) - 65%
Overall, your stats and ECs are awesome, except the only thing I see bringing you down is that you are outside the top 10, but that shouldn’t be a problem if your school is competitive. Also, I would easily beat you in Halo 3.
