Right now I am supposed to attend a 4 year college in the fall. I am very excited for this change but as the fall comes closer and closer, I am nervous for this change and worry I am not ready yet to be on my own, so i have been thinking about doing community college, but not sure since I am very excited to get the college experimce but also very scared. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and a few specific questions, Is it difficult to make friends and also find roomates when transferring to a four year college? Benefits to cc? What is the average persons social life at CC? I also feel like a lot of people go to cc because they don’t have the best grades, is there also people who have good grades but just weren’t ready for college? Is this just nerves and I should still go to the four year? Thanks
It’s so “normal” to feel nervous going away to school. Just go for it! If you’re able to stay in the dorms, it will be a great way to meet people. Join clubs, get involved, and have a great time. If you give it 100% and it doesn’t feel right, you can transition to a CC knowing you gave the 4-year opportunity a chance and therefore won’t have regrets. Good luck! You got this!
Thank you! That is very encouraging. There are pros and cons to each and if the 4 year doesn’t work I can always transfer to CC and then transfer back when I am ready ?
It is very normal to feel nervous before you go off to attend university. This is a big moment in your life.
However, remember that universities are used to this. They have a new set of freshmen show up every year, and are set up to handle this.
You will have a guidance counselor to help you with academic / major / course selection issues, and a counseling center to help students who want to talk to someone about anything else.
There will be a lot of other students who are also away from their parents and family and friends for the first time. This makes it a lot easier to make friends. Also, there will be a wide assortment of clubs and activities that you can participate in.
Thank you for feedback!
