Hello everyone,
I recently got accepted into COLA undeclared and have had anxious questions the past few days. I intend to either transfer to Mccombs and major in MIS or into Natural Science and major in Computer Science. Obviously the internal transfer process is extremely competitive and I really hope I can get a high enough GPA to internally transfer. My main concern is taking my first Calculus class at UT. I took Pre-calc my senior year and somehow had a messup in my first year of college in a community college and only was able to take College Algebra. I have purchased the math readiness package and studying all the preparatory material in order to be successful in Calculus.
Is there any helpful advice/assurance for the upcoming calculus class Ill be taking at UT?
Plus the Kinsolving (North campus) and Jester (south campus) have evening tutoring in the dining halls. They group tables by courses (M408N, M408C, etc.)
Honestly, be willing to spend almost every weekday studying and not place yourself in a cramming panic.
As others have said, take advantage of the study tables and you will receive 5 free credits for 5 hours of one on one tutoring at Sanger Learning Center inside Jester so utilize that as well. Oh and one thing, please don’t go to the 5th floor of the PCL (Perry Castaneda Library) unless you want to lose focus. Try to study on the quieter floors. My personal favorite is the Scholars Commons room on the entry level of the PCL. You should be fine taking Calc I (M408N, M408C). M408C is what I took and I found it to be one the easiest classes I have taken at UT so far, easy A. And then I continued onto M408D, which was a whole different story. M408D was absolutely brutal, probably one of the most difficult classes I have taken if not the most difficult and I had to study VERY VERY hard to pull a 91.3 which the teacher curved to an A. Once you hit M408D, I say go to office hours!!! It is one of the most under utilized resources. PM if you would like any help or other advice. Good luck
