hey guys, ill be starting the two year IB program next fall and I'm wondering about a couple of things:

1) anyone have any helpful advice for getting through the program?
2) how much does completion of the diploma help in the college admissions process for an international student looking to study in the US?
3) what are the highest scores one can get? (overall and individual class-wise)
4) what exactly are the exams and when does one take them?

1) start working on ur EE and TOK essay early ..as in way before the March deadline
2) it helps BUT the US schools like AP better, US schools down south ie Florida like the IBDP more
3) overall 45 and just test scores 42
4) depends on where you are, google IB schools near you.

1) know (or figure out) your learning style... can you skim notes or do you need to write summaries? etc.
2/3 - see above
4) Northern Hemisphere - Exams in May, Southern Hemisphere - Exams in November (check www.ibo.org for the calendar)
Also, each subject has several "exam papers". Each subject is tested over two days with paper 1 (paper 1&2 for exams with 3 parts)on the afternoon of day 1 and paper 2 (paper 3) on the morning of day 2. Some subjects have other exams which you sit earlier in the year - such as language oral exams. There are also in-school components that are externally moderated by IB that count towards your grades - these are things such as Group 4 projects in the sciences, Math Portfolios, History IAs, World Lit Papers, etc.

For international students, a solid IB score will give you a leg up anywhere you apply. The IB is a really intense program, and sometimes, content in other countries is different from that which obtains in the US.
