Nervous Interview!!!!

Ok I know for the Ivy's interviews are quite common. However I was contacted by Brown about an interview for me from a local alumn. I have had job interviews and even an interview for The National Exchange Committee Student of the Year. I've also had many public speeches including multiple NHS speeches for inductions and other such events in front of hundreds of people. So I have had my fair share of interviews and public speaking opportunities. Despite this I am extremely nervous for it and need some tips.

1.How should I prepare for it???!! What information should I have immediately on hand either mentally or physically

2.How should I Dress??? I was thinking black slacks, button down, tie and jacket. Too formal or alright? I usually think over dressed is better than under.

3.Any tips or tricks of the trade??!! What will make me look especially interesting and a good match for Brown. I am familiar with the specialized curriculum options, but what else should I think about

Basically unless you do something offensive/rude (put muddy shoes up on the table) then it wont hurt you. From what I’ve heard, its best to be genuine and not try to ram your resume down their throats. They want to get to know you personally, not academically. Be interesting by being yourself. Know the basics of Brown, but don’t try to show off your knowledge. Just be personable.

Laeven is right. Also, for the most part, Ivy interviews carry very little weight in the admissions process.

Regarding dress, coat and tie seems to be overdoing it but, if that’s what makes you comfortable, go ahead.

Alright thank you both. I’ll probably let her take control of the conversation and just be personable with her. I won’t start firing off the bullets of my application haha. About the coat and tie I might end up just wearing the button down and tie. Says I’m formal, but I like to party. Jk
