I'm at UCSC right now and I'm applying to UCSD and UCD. My intended major is Physics. I'll have 98 quarter units finished by the end of Spring and I'll have all my prereqs completed except for one class (C programming). My expected GPA is around a 3.7 - 3.75. What do you guys think my chances are? Thanks! I just want some peace of mind before I submit my app next month.

Considering Physics isn’t impacted at either and your GPA is pretty well above the average admitted for both schools, I don’t see why you’re worried. If you’ve done everything correctly and your certain all you met all but one prereq with all 98 units being transferable you will be accepted.

Just pure curiosity. Why the switch from Santa Cruz?

@dilapidatedmind: Sounds good, thank you for your input! I feel a bit better now. :)

@lunchbox31: Santa Cruz is nice… but Davis has always been my dream school. I’m actually still a freshman right now at UCSC (It’s been 4 weeks since I started college), but I wanted to get out of here even before I came here. I’ve been planning my one-year transfer since the day I SIRed here, so I obviously don’t want to all my hard work over the summer (I took 15 units) and this quarter to go to waste. Again, I like it here at UCSC, but I still feel that Davis is a better fit for me.

Oh and also, I’m nervous because I got a C in my calc class over the summer (I currently have an A in my calc 2 class). My GPA is still a 3.7 with that C, but will the C still hurt me adversely? I’m also a UC-UC transfer student (which I know is a possible task, but I’m still worried nonetheless). Will these two factors affect me a lot during the admissions process? Thanks again! And yes, I have all the requirements done (except that C programming class).

I’m sure one C won’t hurt at all. You have a strong GPA for Davis especially in a non impacted major. I’d be a nervous wreck being a uc to uc transfer but recently I’ve heard some really positive stories. Good luck!

@lunchbox31: Yeah, hopefully I’ll be alrite in April when decisions come out.

@dilapidatedmind: I just noticed that you transferred from CCC -> UCLA -> UCSD. If you don’t mind me asking, what was your GPA at UCLA (the GPA you transferred with to UCSD)? Also, would you mind sharing the GPA you had in CCC that got you into UCLA? I just want to see what types of GPA ranges are accepted for CCC transfers vs UC-UC transfers (and you’ve been through both successfully!). Thanks for your help again. :)

The only thing I would be worried about is that you already go to a UC and the schools give preference to CCC transfer students before UC to UC transfer students and transfer students from other 4 years. I’m in the same boat, and I’m a little worried about it too, but with my record, I’m more than qualified and am hoping for the best!
