nervousss

Hey y'all...
I am applying EDII to Peabody for the HOD major and I am SOO nervous.

What do y'all think my chances are? I know it's a little late, but I just need SOMETHING to assauge my nerves...

I am a senior at a prestigous high school in Alabama. I have a 3.8 weighted G.P.A. and take almost all the AP classes offered at our school(except 1), am in charge of organinzing the largest Relay for Life in the nation, captain of the debate team, on the newspaper staff, and a first generation college applicant.
My class rank is not that great because my high school is extrememly competitive but I am in the top 35%.
I worked really hard on the application, essays, and even sent in a video essay telling them why I want to go there. I got a 31 on the ACT and am involved in a bunch of clubs at my school. I have volunteered a lot at the Zoo and am the coordinator for my school with Habitat for Humanity. I have had several articles published in local newspapers and a poem published.
Courses: Sophomore year: 3 adv. classes( we are not allowed to take AP's sophomore year) debate team. Junior year: AP Bio, AP US History, AP Language & Comp. Adv. Spanish III, alg II, debate. Senior year: AP Spanish V, Adv. Theatre III, AP Lit, APES, AP Gov't/Economics, AP Comparative Gov't, Precal, journalism, debate.
My essays were good and my recs are awesome.
For EDI, 4 people applied at my school and all got accepted. Last year 10 people applied total and all 10 got accepted. For EDII, I know of 2 other people who are applying.
I want to go to this school soo badly and I am SO nervous I won't get in!
Thanks so much and good luck with y'all's acceptances!

i really want to tell you that you will get in but i really don't know.. my stats are similar so of course i hope you get in haha! we have the same act score, and while my class rank is higher, my school probably isn't as competitive as yours. good luck! i hope you get in.. even if i don't =)

good luck to you too! i hope we both can say we got in!

Edit to orignial post:
I also forgot to say in my post that I had a really good interview! Hopefully, this helps too!

When you say you go to a competitive high school what does that mean. I know that for all my applications a profile of my high school is sent out. It has statistics like the average SAT scores, an AP scoring profile, as well as all the APs offered.

Do you know any of those types of statistics for your school?

here's some of those statistics from my school -- keep in mind that i would say that overall my school is NOT competitive.. it's only competitive towards the top of the class (top 15% or so)

Curriculum Features: The academic program is college preparatory. We offer Spanish, French, and Italian in addition to Band, Chorus, Jazz Ensemble and other Fine/Performing Arts. Honors level courses are offered in English I, II, III & IV; World History; American History to 1900; American Government; Economics; Biology; Chemistry; Marine Science II: Physics; Geometry; Algebra II; PreCalculus; Spanish I, II, III, IV, & V; French III & IV; History of Christian Thought I & II; Visual BASIC Computer Programming I and II.

Advanced Placement: The AP courses are offered in U.S. History, American Government, English IV Literature, Chemistry, Calculus AB, English III Language and Spanish IV Language, Biology and Computer Science A/Java.

Dual Enrollment: College credit from St. Thomas University in Miami is offered in the following: History of Christian Thought Honors I & II, Visual Basic Computer Programming Honors, and Pascal Computer Programming Honors.

Class of 2005: Four Year Colleges and Universities: 95%; Two Year Colleges and Technical Programs: 5%

SAT I Verbal Math avg in Top 10% ACT Composite
my school 527 514 700/701 22.7
state avg 498 498 20.4
national avg 508 520 21.9

Well, I don't know the exact numbers, but I know that our SAT/ACT scores are well over the national averages and we rank in the top 100 schools in the United States so we do well on AP tests and all that good stuff. We also send a number of kids to Ivies and other reputable colleges. 100% graduate and 99% go to 4-year colleges, the other 1% going to community colleges, etc. We are the 2nd best school in Alabama, the 1st best being the #1 school in the nation, according to Newsweek. I know those numbers aren't always accurate, but I hope that gives you some sort of an idea of how competitive it is? Sorry I don't have more info for you!

Also, at my school the grading system is somewhat odd.
An "A" is 92-100
A "B" is 80-91
etc.
I don't know how that affects the competitiveness, but I do know it affects my GPA.

aww I really hope you get in! I'm a peabody kid myself. My stats were similar to yours and I'm here right now, but it's really hard to give you a solid answer. One question: did you visit? Showing passion for the school really helps aps here. Also was your interview with an alumn? (if so they don't really help much) Good luck!

You definitely have a solid chance. The only thing I can see hurting you is your class rank. I remember seeing on college board that class rank is fairly important to admissions at vandy. But def a great chance.

Good luck!!

thanks a bunch y'all! I have visted twice, once on a regular tour and another on the PreVU day. I did have an interview with an alumnus also. I know my class rank isn't that great, but I am hoping that other things may make up for it?
Good luck to you too, Nicole!

I went to the PreVU day in November...there were so many people there!!

I know! There were a ton when I went in June too! I was surprised.

Me too... are you signed onto aim right now. I just tried IMing you.

No, I am not. This computer doesn't have AIM, but I'll be on later tonight! I'll IM you or you can IM me...

sounds good, we can freak out together

sounds good, we can freak out together!

you will def get your letter by tomorrow
