Nescac Swimming Recruiting

Hello, I am a junior and I am particularly interested in swimming for Bowdoin. I sent in a questionnaire form in early October. I received a response a day later, the assistant coach said that I had a good background and that they would like to keep in touch. I participated in a prelims-finals meet this past weekend, and I wanted to email the coaches my times as a mid-season update, but I wasn’t very happy with my performance. I am not sure what to do next in this recruiting process. Do I wait until championship season to email the coaches my times?

If your times are competitive for Bowdoin’s team (even tho you aren’t happy with them) go ahead and send them. If not competitive, wait until you have better times.

Lastly, consider expanding the list of schools you are looking at…the process is long and competitive, and casting a wide net wide is prudent.

Good luck.

Send over the times/scores if they are competitive with the top Bowdoin swimmer’s times. Look to see if your times would help them score points at their championship meets and/or would qualify for D3 Nationals.

I don’t think much Nescac recruiting takes place until later in the year. The coaches want to get a complete picture from you regarding sports performance, test scores, grades, senior schedule etc. Many Nescac schools will offer pre-reads to athletes of interest during the summer, usually after July 1.

Good luck, keep working hard.

If you have already provided them with your best times when you completed their online recruitment forms, then imo there is no need to update them with times that don’t improve upon them. Keep in touch this spring with your times from your taper meet(s) and any updated testing information, but besides that I wouldn’t bother them until after the SCY season finishes up in early April.

Definitely expand your list of schools, complete their online forms, and reach out to coaches after their season is complete. Best of Luck

If you like Bowdoin, you might consider Middlebury, Bates, and Colby. The latter has a new Olympic-sized pool that will host NESCACs next year (2021). Middlebury has a great pool, too. Williams, Tufts, and Amherst are faster.
