NESCAC Women's ERG times? (Crew/Rowing)

Can anyone in the know comment on the kind of erg times NESCAC coaches are looking for? I have a junior daughter whom I suspect is on the edge of recruitability. As we plan her early college visits we're trying to figure out how much of a bump, if any, she'll get from rowing.

Her coach, who has sent women to NESCAC schools in the past, is enthusiastic about her and has offered to send out film. As the season has not yet started I don't really want to ask these questions of her directly at this point. I suspect much will depend on DD's spring times. She's too short for D1 programs but is strong and rows well on both sides.

I also suspect that schools toward the top of the league, like Williams and Bates, can be pickier in their recruiting. Does anyone know about differences in times between those schools and schools that have experienced less success in crew? Any comments about the number of slots, if any, available to coaches?

Thanks!

If your club coach had recently sent some of his athletes to NESEC schools he should know what ERG times they are looking for. In addition he should also have a good idea about what ERG times he expects from your daughter this spring. I would think that now would be a good time to have a preliminary discussion with him about college recruiting.

As I understand it the coach prefers to deal with the girls one on one at this point in the season. I’d like to wait to have the discussion until after the boats are set. DD has already had preliminary discussions with the coach and asking her do more would stress out an already stressed out kid.

I guess what I’m really looking for is input like, “Trinity said 7:50’s too slow unless she’s a 6 foot tall novice”, “At 7:35 DD was recruited widely” or “at 7:40 she received interest from 3 D3 coaches but none of them were able to offer her slots.” It’s as much to satiate my curiosity as anything else. I’ve seen widely varying information on rowing sites-everything from “Forget recruiting unless she pulls a sub-7:30” to “The coach offered my 7:58 kid a spot.”

you haven’t mentioned grades–very important in NESCAC and higher standards at some than others

Academically her counselor lists some of the NESCACs with higher admit rates as matches, other slightly more selective NESCACs as reaches. This would be with rowing as a plain old EC. My question is whether her rowing will allow her to look at more selective schools, places where her stats would put her around the 25th percentile for admitted students.
