To qualify for admittance to the most competitive schools, do you need to take the absolute hardest courseload your school offers? I am most likely not going to take AP Physics or Honors Chem, but opt for Chem Com and regular Physics instead. I will be taking 7 or 8 AP's over the course of high school, including AP Calc. Can I still consider myself an Ivy hopeful (solely based on my courses) without the honors science classes?

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... no.

just don't apply to an engineering program. :)

take the most challenging (hardest?) courses you can handle, while maintaining an A or B.

what's chem com, is it non-leveled? i think you should be alright either way though

Chem Com at my school is one level below regular chemistry. (AP Chem - H Chem - R Chem - Chem Com)

I would take reg. chemistry... at least... chem com sounds like a blow off class

does it look bad if you average more b's then a's on extremely demanding courses? and no, i dont mean at an ivy skool, more like top 50.

Chem com is regular Chemistry at my school. And I won't be looking to major in anything that is premarily science or math based.
PS: Sorry for my spelling :)

i dunno, i would think if everything else is good, you'd be alright. id say take regular though at least. if you are considering ivies you should definitely be able to handle that

you either need to be a recruited athelete, or have some superb talent skill that few people have, in order to get inwithout taking super duper hard courses.

However, keep in mind that there are brilliant recruite atheletes out there.

So, you should take the hardest/most challenging courses possible and ace every single one.

i dont think thats true, i remeber even at an info session at harvard, the admissions officer said you dont need to be taking the most challenging in EVERY single subject. You should certainly have a demanding courseload, but it does not need to be the hardest possible. At least, that is true if you come from a very tough school. If your school doesn't offer many AP then yea, you should be taking hardest
