is the net id that you have going to be your rutgers email address, or do you get to pick a separate name for your email?

I’m pretty sure your NetID will be your email as well.

The NetID is seperate from your email.

The NetID is your e-mail address.

It’s separate from your email, but it is the same name as your email. How about that.

It can also be your email, but it doesn’t have to be. For me I already had a netID even though I didn’t make it. I don’t think that’s normal since they ask new students to create one. I logged in with my netID and it asked me to create an email account. The email can be anything you want as long as it’s within the guidlines. At least that’s how it went for me two days ago.

Well it’s all screwed up for me than cause I didn’t create my own. When I put in my info to make one it said one was already created for me and my email isn’t the same as my netID.

ziggy it does say on that page that in some cases, where people already have a NetID, they will be able to create an email separately (as you did).

Yea I know I just don’t understand how I had a netID already.

Thanks for all the responses!
I ended up calling Rutgers, and for those that still need help, they said that the net ID is now automatically set up for new students (it’s a new system or something). After you choose your password, you will be able to choose a separate email address that does not have to be your net ID. Your email address will be name@rutgers.edu. Your net ID is only used to login to the system

Thank you that’s exactly how it was for me. Now I know it wasn’t just me.
